Lift gone bad

New member
Ok, so tonight I was doing bench press and on my last rep I was holding it half way as long as I could after about 12 reps (only 185lbs) and this bro walks over briskly and yanks the bar up for me. He thought I was having trouble getting it up and didn't have a spot.

It was all I could do to not bust out laughing.

Anyone else done this?

And of course if you explain it to him...

"I was holding it at midpoint on purpose, man!" - cyrex

"Ummmmm.....yeah....whatever you say, bud" - Gym guy

You just can't win on this one. LOL! ;)

Ever try chocholate or strawberry?

I was a little confused too, lol. Your best bet is to have somebody stand behind you and explain what you're doing, that way no do-gooders will run over, the guy had good intentions for sure though.

does holding it static like that help a lot?
very curious -- trying to get past plateau that i've been at for over a year now... have tried everything almost: 5x5's, drop sets, pyramid sets..
thanks

HAHAH karm to that one blut wump!

(BTW I edited the original post to get rid of the flavor)

I'm not complaining that the guy tried to help so much as I thought it was funny. He realized what I was doing after I said it and his face got all red.
I hope he doesn't hesitate next time when someone who really does need help is in trouble though.

It does seem to help my stamina a bit.

With it being rookie month, with all the new year resolutioners back in the house, he just might have been more eager to help than usual.

I lift at the local chain / everyone from all around come in and jump on stuff you don't know what the hell your doing gym and you don't know how many times I've seen people with no form or strength get stuck, almost let the plates slide off the bar or even "spotters" that stand back with both hands on the bench and "spot" a bencher with the ole one hand in the middle move.

It should be illegal for these gyms to unleash a friggin 13 year old kid who's never touched a weight in their life without at least putting someone with them or giving them a free training session.... jeez!!!

Wow. Dangerous. I'm surprised that no one talked to them about that.

I saw a guy perform a chocolate squat while in full powerlifting gear, suit, briefs, and all. I imagine it was quite an uncomfortable time for him to get out of the gear.
