life as a slacker was so much simpler

Back in my super slacker days, like 2 weeks a go, I would come in to work, log on EF and chat and surf all day. Project with dead lines to be met? No problem, I always a valid excuse to buy more time. What about work output? No problem either, I'd make sure to get things done here and there and make a big deal out of everything so it seemed justifiable that it took me so long and made me look good because I was able to finish it despite all the "obstacles". 85% stress free, and then the 15% of the time when I actually worried.

I recently changed my outlook on work. Time was going by so slow, comming to work was always boring and a drag, and I simply realized that I was just wasting my time, energy and abilities by sitting here doing nothing. So I picked things back up, started doing work, clearing tasks off the entire departments assignment list. Actually earning my pay. Sure my day goes by mch faster now, I like my job slightly better and I do feel a sence of well beign after accomplishing certain tasks (on time). However, things are so fucking stressful now! This is due today, that is due tomorrow, I need to move this up in priority but still have everything else done on schedule. Fuck, I'm going to have to take some of this work with me over the weekend, etc, etc, etc............

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

you'll find more opportunities for career (and pay) advancement with what you are doing now.. makes the added stress worth it.

Welcoem to the office rat-race bro. :)

You can do lotsa shit, but others, with their own selfish desires in mind -- will not find in their best interests to herald your accomplishments and reward you. Instead they'll throw more work at you. Can't make a deadline? Your failure will be thoroughly publicized.

It's the #1 failure of most work office environments. Make people into monkeys instead of humans. Where I'm at, we arrange 6 months to get something done that'll take 4 months. People get it done in 4 months and than 2 months can be spend doing R&D, taking classes, time-off, fixing problems, etc. People actually get rewarded for doing a good job. What a concept.

Doesn't seem like you have much motivation there. Your only motivation is to not get fired. Pretty lousy environment. I suggest when you're nto "working" to make the day productive. Do something that'll improve your career or new career, etc. Trade journals are a godsend.

believe me, I know. I've been riding out the last two years based on the reputation as a smart and hard worker I earned here on my first year. I figure it's time to to work up another two years worth of slacking off. Either that or sharpen my skills so I can move on some time next year.

you know sorearms with pain pills all active and stuff in my body I look at your avatar and she/he seems to move

i know exactly what you feel like. it's good to be productive and contribute, although i usually don't do much (perhaps this is why actually doing something useful feels so good to me). i hope that feeling in and of itself is enough to make your increased workload worthwhile. if not, i hope you're at the right company and that your hard work pays off.

and if that ain't true, i hope you find a new job doing something that isn't such a drag.

i don't really like IT work, but i'll stick with it until i have the notion (or balls) to try anothing thing. in the meantime, my goal is to find a different job that pays the most but impacts my life the least (i.e., slackability).

lately i've been trying to read up on Oracle as a foundation for more in-depth learning later on. it's somewhat tedious because i have the attention span of an insect and get bored after 15-20 seconds, but maybe i'll get through it.

in any case, good luck sanchez.
