Re: Yup
It seems there are numerous studies but I have been unable to even get their abstracts from medline. It has been used for hyperlipidemia and renaults syndrom, intermittednt claudation, but I have not seen any specific studies on HDL. I have been basing my opinion on the hundreds of reports from a google search but seemingly no referenceable studies. The closest I have come is this link that gives several references that I have not been able to track down. Check it out and see what you can do:

I would likewise be interested in seeing any studies that show it to be ineffective.

In addition to lowering LDL, niacin raises levels of the protective HDL cholesterol. Also, levels of the blood fat triglycerides fall dramatically with niacin.
If your doc has you taking Lipitor, drop it and ask for Zocor, does not have the sides the Lip does. Even better is a statin-niacin combo. One study combining niacin with lovastatin (Mevacor) increased HDL levels 30% in first 4 mons; LDL levels dropped 45% and triglycerides fell 42%.
JB-do you any links to studies regarding inosital nicotinate/hexanicotinate as what I have read is contrary to what you have stated, so I'd like to know more.
