Are they giving Texas a hint too? How about Florida?

Too many Coobans and Mehicans.

Sorry to hear that Rnch....I hope everything ends up okay with your house...Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Nature is giving a hint...

Dude , you need to chill....

Those levees needed work for 40 years... The hint is that republicans have been cutting spending on the people and trading it in for deciding what gov't other countries should have... Spending our tax dollars on some mes 1/2 way across the world that has nothing to do with US bu yet we neglect our own needs...

That is the only hint I can see in this

do you know what state in USA gets the most money for civil works projects?? not california, not texas but Louisana

While that may well be true, nature certainly doesn't distinguish :)
Bush's environmental policies along with Halliburtons contracts in Iraq created the hurricanes.

lol, shrub's environmental policies are reprehensible but thankfully he hasn't been around long enough yet to seriously contribute.

Could you enlighten us on the meaning of "civil works projects"??

Levee funding comes from the same pool as interstate highways, but new roads have been built plenty in the last 40 years...

meaning money for civil projects, roads, levees, bridges, etc...the state of Lousiana gets the most fed money.

I think that we can all agree that the hurricanes are a result of the poor and poorly educated folks in the affected areas, which draws the weather toward them; and the government's strategic placement of numerous steno submarines to create these "super" hurricanes to wipe them out. Bush had a vision as a child that this would happen one day, and has been going into the river with a hammer and chisel to slowly weaken the levy on his free time.

You've never said where your house is. Is your house in the 9th ward?
If your house is not in New Orleans east , then why would you think it would be affected?

i just hope they have to build NO from scratch like the way they had to w/Galveston in 1900 after the hurricane...

According to the news, the taxes paid daily from the casinos were $500,000 / day.. now where the heck did all that $$ go, i'm sure it could have helped in strengthening the levee system ....

That seems like a heavily inflated number considering Harrahs was on the verge of bankruptcy for a long time...

Casinos have almost completely rebuild Shreveport, LA. NO doesn't get that level of revenue from casinos

If it keeps on rainin’, levee’s goin’ to break,
If it keeps on rainin’, levee’s goin’ to break,
When the levee breaks I’ll have no place to stay.
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,
Lord, mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.
Don’t it make you feel bad
When you’re tryin’ to find your way home,
You don’t know which way to go?
If you’re goin’ down south
They go no work to do,
If you don’t know about chicago.
Cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
Now, cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
All last night sat on the levee and moaned,
All last night sat on the levee and moaned,
Thinkin’ ’bout me baby and my happy home.
Going, go’n’ to chicago,
Go’n’ to chicago,
Sorry but I can’t take you.
Going down, going down now, going down.

Get off the soapbox, this is nutty.

Both parties have exchnaged control of Congress and the White House over the past few decades, and none of them did SHIT about New Orleans vulnerability to storms, even though it has been well understood forever.

Both parties have the same agenda. There are no real differences.

I do tend to blame republics, but true both fucked up.

Yes - the idea of a two party system divides and conquers the American people, turns every debate into "us" against "them", and blinds people to the straight up theft and waste of their tax money.

The federal budget is $2.5T per year.

You could buy every sports team in NFL, NBA and MLB 10 times, and still have enough to buy Wal Mart, Microsoft and GE.

Imagine what that money could do used effectively. But we'll never know as long as the two party system reigns.

Gridlock is definitly a good thing. That way neither side can mess with the economy

I would agree, except that by costing us $2.5 trillion per year, the economy is already being messed with.

I'd "need" information on the expenditures of civil projects from a federal budget, but I'm not sure why LA get the most for civil projects. But the answer may be "need"...

Expenditures "need" to be justified...

for sure bor, but it is an interesting fact, considering LA's pop and land mass is not the greatest...maintaing the mouth of the river i guess costs a sheetoload.

Both parties need to split into at least two. GOP into Fiscal vs. Social Conservatives; Dems into, uh, I don't really see a logical split point, maybe Loonie Left vs. Moderates? Maybe a third splinter group from the GOP would be the Neo-Con Warlords.

so then you have coalitions, back to a 2 party system BAM

I think MTS envisions a more autocratic regieme

Which is funny in that they have been complaining about funding as well...
The whole sediment issue with the damming of the Mississippi has caused mega erosion at the mouth of the river. It also has causing NO to sink.

The seafood industry is big in that area. Much of the countries shrimp and oysters come from there. Grand Isle and Venice are huge in offshore fishing.

The marsh land also protects NO from storms, the more it erodes the more hurricanes are going to hurt that town

Nah, I imagine a regime in which federal government lacks power except in clearly defined situations - essentially a 1776 perspective.

I also believe in limiting who votes.

I call Warlord Leader!

s.e. texas may also be on the "need" list by monday morning.

will there be any threads about "if" we should rebuild galveston?

I think the Texans left when they were told too.

Anyone that builds a city below sea level isn't very bright. Bush policies have nothing to do with people dumb enough to build a city below sea level and then not leave. I personally prefer my damns to be built from concrete as well. But hey, I guess it is all Bushes fault. I mean afterall, he did force them to stay and then didn't tell them the rain was coming.
