(I'll preface to say, the usual boo fucking hoo about oval racing will show up here so let's move on)

It sucks they locked in 37 and 7 spots for guys like Boris Said.

I looked at the line-up, I don't recognize half the names anymore :(

this will be a great year bro, good fights yesterday - dude jacked up another guys car on pit road after he got turned.

Lots of old school action

I'm headed to Las Vegas for the race in a couple weeks. Looking forward to it, that one is always good times.

I read some good articles this morning in Sports Business Journal about Junior (new team, him maturing into ownership role and his lack of success on the track) and about the recent NASCAR press release claiming they are going to pull back on the reins (sp?) a bit when it comes to monitoring driver behavior.

He is my #1 this year, use to hate him - dude matured for sure and has great talent.

Wish I could go to Vegas (be in Mexico) - maybe later in the year I can go to one outside NE.

He has produced everywhere (sponsorships, merch sales, etc) BUT the track though. As of late.

I'm taking him this year for the Championship - amazing how his Dad was protecting him on the track when he got killed.

Car racing is one sport I just cannot get into. I can see if one knows about car engineering, how the guys work it in the pit, and all that other stuff it may get exciting but to me it is nothing but a bunch of guys driving in a circle for a few hours lol

if last night's practice is any indication. . .this is gonna be one that you don't wanna miss. . .especially for you "rubbin' is racin'" fans. . .

when I put the races up in the bookie forum you'll get into it
crank that shit up on the home theater

I think I'll try a win-place-show deal to ease the ability to win
payoff winning odds for the top 3
I can place more than one win in an event

I rank it right up there with golf for most exciting sports to watch.

What does it say in your garage? I see a T and a M, can't make out the rest.

What is with your license plates being in order? 62970, 62971? Is this some sort of Bama thing?
I bought both the Roger Clemens porsche and the bronco in new jersey
towed the porsche back with the bronco and got them tagged the same day

I use Norelco shavers. Have 3 or 4 of them. Ones a beard trimmer though.

Thats what my brother said years back. Now he's got a 3 car garage and its not big enough. Needs more room, he has 2 cars parked over at my place, 6 at his.

up against the wall is the stock exhaust with 2 cats from the supra

there's a station in my area(nascar land) that sells 110 octane leaded racing fuel for about $5-6/gallon

I'll put 5 gallons of that in the supra and 15 gallons 93 octane
the supra loves it
goddamn

Did they give you a special dispensation for driving the hearse and the funeral car?

I am rooting for JPM and Pat Carpentier.

The more of a foreign accent, the better.

Except for Dario Franchitti, for some reason I can't stand him.

Plus anyone in a Toyota, particularly those who drive for Joe Gibbs.

That's exactly why I'm into it--I picked up on it while I was an auto mechanic.

I could bore you to tears....oh wait I already do

Why can't they turn right?

Because there's a cement wall there.

Every once in a while, though, they turn too far left, and then have to correct by turning left, and the guy behind can read the car number on the door. In Japan and on the West Coast, that's called "drifting."

In NASCAR, it's called "boogity boys, lookee how busy his hands are in that there cockpit there, he's all up on that wheel, yoo-hah!"

or a tank-slapper. or a nice save. or "The Big One."

plus Mika is in the German Touring cars now!

The DTM?

Hey, remember that three-wide pass he made on Schumi?

I have a clip of it, overlaid with his explanation in the post-race interview. It's hilarious.

I totally downloaded and watched a (metric) shit-ton of F1 races over the last few months. Such was my thirst for speed.

Those guys, they way they carry themselves, it's like they're celebrity rock-star Tom Cruise billionaire royalty. Seriously, I doubt Henry VIII had as much of a 'tude.

In their defence, however, there's nothing that's more difficult, driving-wise, than F1. Nothing, hands down, that requires as much raw talent coupled with years of practice and intense concentration.

JPM switched to NASCAR 'cos it's more fun. For Carps, Franchs, Horns, Vills, it's a retirement job. NASCAR is in danger of becoming the Senior Tour of auto racing.

I generally listened to JPM's radio all last season and in one race, he got t-boned as he crossed the finish line and, I swear to God, let out a true Rebel Yell and screamed "holy shit, guys, is this fun or what!?" over his radio.

This is a guy born & raised in Colombia and less than a year removed from eating caviar and sipping champagne out of a glass slipper. He accepted the trophy for winning at Monaco from an honest-to-goodness prince. You know, Grace Kelly shit. Or pee-wee herman in 30 Rock. And he gave that all up to trade paint w/Kevin Harvick and them.

There's got to be something to it is all I'm saying.

In conclusion, you're all gay. Give it up already. You're welcome.

I'm fukking pissed I can't watch the Twins today. Speed Network my assssssssssss

I am awaiting it right now, maybe better than the 500. You don't have speed? they covered 100 hours this week.

Lummy,
I grew up going to both oval and road courses (Lime Rock) both for Trans Am and LeMan's/Grand Am. The reason I enjoy it, is I could go right up and watch the Ferrrai mechanics tear down a 333sp and then talk to the driver - it was very educational and a weekend experience.

Also, I've seen every F1 race for the past 20 years (prob. other series too Indy, IRL) - it is clear that NASCAR has become the new world stage for drivers. Most of these guys are switching in their prime. Not retiring into it. These guys are switching after winning championships and races. Also, most are not even qualifying at this point (big learning curve). Best season yet to come.

NASCAR is no different in that the equipment matters most. There's more parity, but just like we are never going to see Force India win a race, we'll never see Furniture Row racing win. I'd be willing to bet that in Hendrick equipment, JPM would have made the chase.

Agree money buys speed (qualifying) but teams win in NASCAR with significantly less money. Not the case in F1.

I am sure you know more history than you are suggesting with your comment, many teams have won big races with almost nothing in oval racing. Much more probability of failure among the money teams due to crashes, equipment, etc.

Don't patronize me you welsh rabbit.

Seriously though, in Sprint Cup, which is the last shoestring darkhorse to win a big race?

you pose a trick questions.

The answer is easy for driver (Boyer, Hamlin, Edwards)

For team it is more open to debate, you see you are not separating driver from team - you have confounded them.

You can't do that in F1

Huh? I thought we were talking about cars/teams winning big races on a shoestring budget.

The drivers don't pay for anything, they're paid to do their job. I don't get what you're driving at.

Bowyer runs for Childress, a big money team. Hamlin--Gibbs, same, Edwards--Rousch, same.

Yeah they weren't necessarily the favorites, but they all three had the same monetary support as Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, and Matt Kenseth, respectively.

As you can see I am focusing on the "won big races with almost nothing" part of you comment.

No one in Nascar has almost nothing bro, you built up a straw man argument. I think you get my point and I get yours.

I am just wasting time until the goddamn races start, and I suspect you are doing the same. I hope our incoherent exchange here doesn't ruin our friendship.

What are you going to watch for in the races? You gonna be on NASCAR.com with the free services there?

I don't even get SPEED, I'll be watching race view and trackpass and listening to a few different radios.

LOL, bro - this is the best racing discussion I ever had here - I embrace it! Look forward to building our group like we use to have here (Karma bookie).

I am working home today, only to have the Twins on TV here, basically they have been running practice all a.m.

I'll def get on and catch some in-car - but I don't mind the coverage on speed at all. It will prob. be posted on that link I sent you.

True, but F1 has predictable finishes sometimes too. Mclaren and Ferarri unless someone blows a gear box or flattens a tire.

Atleast Nascar guys are pretty even. Tony Raines leading a race until he decides to turn right...

Guys, Pick your top 3 for each race today.

You will get 3 points for a correct 1st, 2 for a correct second, and 1 for a correct 3rd.

If your driver comes in but not in the right position as selected, you get 1/2 point.

Most points is right today
