Leg Subs

ok Knee Bars Ankle Locks Heel Hooks
I need it all people
I was at BJJ.org someone showed me for chokes but I didn't see any real leg work there
I find when I roll with people I often wind up holding their leg and wondering how to sub them out in this fasion

ugh.. explaning subs are a pain in the ass cuz its so hard to decipher .. here i go anyways

heres an easy one:

in side mount if youre on their right side, pinning them down and they raise their right leg you can first scoop it using your right arm and hold it towards your chest- like a cradle. then take your left forearm and place it on his chin/throat. take your right foot and post it against his ass. with your right hand (the one thats scooping his right leg) and hold on to your gi collar.

now push off his face /throat using the left forearm on his face and fall back on your posted leg (aka collapse it) as you swing your left leg over and thus hugging his right leg that you got trapped. fall on your side. clinch ur knees together. make sure his foot is by your head. then thrust your hips/ shrimp your hips. if he doenst tap: bye bye knee.

that was actually a really good description
only problem is we do no gi but I can still work with that
so I want his knee on my crotch right like an armbar

yes and your feet should be by his tailbone. to add alot more leverage, try over hooking the leg under your armpit (like a guilotine choke) and then pushing down with your armpit as you thrust.

You can also slide your lower leg tibia into his femoral/pelvic notch then pull his ankle by your far ear with your upper forearm as if answering a telephone. There is much more pressure on the knee this way and if you have much more distance to row back to make the joint snap. You lose a bit of stability in exchange though.

having trouble picturing that one jacob

Instead of having both of your legs crossed by the opponents butt, you have one by the butt and the other leg shin bone wedged in the opponents hip joint. In this version, your legs will be in a near figure-four position. This version also differs from the standard knee bar by virtue of hand placement. Instead of using both hands to clasp at the achilles tendon by the heel, you are securing the leg with only the top part of one forearm and passing the ankle by your ear. Similar to the standard knee bar, you then thrust your hips forward to put pressure on the knee.

Are you wondering about foot locks? The easiest one I know is like a guillotine putting pressure on the ankle. The most damaging ones are the ones that twist the heel though. Though you are twisting the foot, the majority of the stress goes against the knee.

There are some cool leg locks in this video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-442590005152298715&q=pride

What you will find probably more important than knowing multitudes of locks is the transitions and set ups for the locks.

yah well I'm having and oddly easy time getting into possition for submissions and then I dunno what the actual submission is
I had one thing that I thought was a submission and I wasn't sure and so I let go because I did'nt think I'd have any leverage from where I was (I was in the bottom of N/S) and the guy after said I had nearly tapped him

ankle locks are hard to finish with, because you usually lose position....heel hooks and kneebars are better but take lots of reps to get the set ups right....they are easy to apply just hard to set up..I have been doing bjj for about a year 2-3 times a week and still do not feel very comfortable going for leg subs  Just takes time and reps to get good at them :)

yah I have some trouble KEEPING the ankle now
a heel hook I dunno dosn't he have to be facing away from me to do that

The set up is almost the same as a str8 ankle lock.....just rotate your forearm under the heel and keep the top of their foot trapped in your armpit.....make sure and trap their leg so they cant roll out easily.....be careful with these on your training partners because they can blow your knee out very easy :)

x2.. be VERY careful and for your first time get instructor supervision. when i get caught with these, only sometimes i try to push it and roll out... its a career ender if the knee gets torn.
