learned something about chins

Yesterday I did back, which included 6 sets of chins. For the first time I really controlled on the way up and also controlled my progress on the way down. Boy did it destroy my back
 
I do back once a week....6 sets of chins followed by 5 sets of db row. Trying to add in rack deads but my lower back doesnt like it to much right now
 
how many reps ya getting each set? going to failure? my reps drop off quick on chins, they still suck after 17 odd years at it

Dont mean to hijack this thread, but my chins drop waaay off after only one set. I can do a set of strict chins with a negative, for about 8-10 reps. After that set, (which is pretty intense) im done. Most of the muscles in my body are like that actually, except for legs, which for some reason seem stronger as i go
 
im not saying using your abs directly, but they are stretched when you hang during chins, but i agree with bbuniverse, dont round your back, that would directly hit abs, and would be poor form
