LCD and Plasma TV,s

Is it safe to play video games on both? Cause ive heard that the colors and maybe the whole picture of the game can burn into the screen. Any input much much appreciated cause Im about to buy a 42 inch widescreen lcd tv and dont want to ruin it. K to any real help.
