Lawyer Question

Hey bros...i was wondering if there are any states in the country that will allow me to take the bar exam and be a lawyer with a felony on my record?...because I know no matter how clean my record stays and no matter how great my grades are for the next couple years that I have no chance of Pennsylvania expunging my record...it is a Class D felony which means it was one step away from being just a misdemeanor

prolly not

Have you thought about becoming a paralegal?? If you get a science degree (chemistry), you can make a good salary doing patent work.

Regardless of the major, your potential employer will ask have you ever been convicted of a crime. You either will say yes or no (and pray they don't do an extensive background check).

There are a few states that do not even require you to take the bar in order to practice law. little known fact.

however, youre probably still subjected to rigorous screening, albeit not through the ABA.

Yes, that is true. I heard Virginia even allows well experienced paralegals to practice. I'm trying to find that loophole.

OH, you don't have to be an attorney to do immigration work and worker's compensation. Look into that to make sure. I remember an attorney coming to talk to my class when I was in paralegal school and telling us that. I want to say you can also "represent" someone. INS and Worker's Comp are more administrative procedures. But, look into it to make sure. I graduated paralegal school in 2000 so my brain is a bit dusty.

i do not know if it is the same in the Unites States but in Australia someone who wishes to practice as a lawyer and has had an offence in the past would have to apply to the Legal Profession Admission Board (not sure what the equivalent of that is in the USA, you need to find that out yourself) and explain it to the board what the offence was, why you did it and prove it to them that you are now a reformed man

after your application the committee will gather and make a decision about your application (in Australia)...

goodluck

I was told California is the only state allowing it. If you pay the right people you probably can have it expunged. That's how our society works.....seriously!

California allows me to be an attorney even with a felony on my record?...that would be great cuz thats where I wanted to go anyway
