I hope so, I really do.

im not christian or believe what they do (im catholic) and i believe there are many good people in this world today, mainly older people, they are just not sen as much because the way things are in this world today they dont go outside because they are scared,so yes wodin trust me when i say there still are people like you talk of out there

Good question Bababooey, also, swearing on the bible goes against one of the Beatitudes where it states that, no man should promise, swear, etc, his word shall be enough. peace

um.. dude.. hate ta break it to ya.. but catholicism is a form of christianity... not the other way around...

In the beginning... (of the United States Court system) the bible actually ment something to everybody living in the country... swearing on it ment you'd go to hell if you lied. Today, whether you believe in God or not, it is a symbol of "telling the truth, being honest and being a 'good' person"... we continue to use it for lack of anything else to swear on.

As for religion not being involved... religion will always be involved in the law. If not for Christian values, we wouldn't have many of the laws we have in our country. As for the Church having control of what goes on in the Courts... that is bogus... it hasn't happened for a while, and I doubt it ever will (hopefully so)

I hate to break it to you bro, but Catholics ARE Christians.

i mean the new age reformed cult shit, not religions that have been around for hundreds of years

big difference

I would shit on the bible, but I would still tell the truth if ever in court, cuz that's just the person I am. Unless the lie got me in bed with a really hot chick.

Alot of women-complain that men lie too much as it is.. Exspecially, in judical proceedings. Its too bad that there are men who feel that lieing to get laid takes precedent over decencey.

You mean men lie to get laid? Oh. That explains a lot...

Actually women lie as much if not more than men, probably not to get laid though. Women will just lie about small things like: "It's your baby."

I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest on the internet but it saddens me greatly to see some people on this board continuously rub anti-chrsitian themes knowing it is going to get things riled up. I'm not flaming anybody in particular but you know who you are. If you don't believe in God then that is your choice but don't continuously throw it out there wanting somebody to bite on it. I think by now, most of the regular board posters know your position concerning God and believing or not believing. I guess it's like beating a dead horse......What's the use?

Again, It is not my intent to come on this thread and get things riled up and then get it locked down. It's just an observation!

About this thread's subject, "Swearing on the Bible and telling the truth in court".......It's a shame morals and values fell by the wayside and are not taught anymore. It's simply the beginning of the end to a world I used to know.

swearing on the Bible is one of the few things that still exist from the foundation of the judiciary. It is one of the few things that we have not yet deviated from---one of the few things that we have not shamed our founders by explaining away.

Looks like some of us are ready to over ride our founders once more.

huh--what a surprise.

c'mon now..

whats up Decem---

is that a Boxer or a Bully????

I work for a certain parcel delivery company and I got the crap scared out a me by a couple of boxers one night---I look back at it now and laugh:D

boxer.. i've had them all my life..

lol at them scaring you..... people who aren't around boxers alot tend to be quite intimidated by them... little do they know that boxers have got to be the most cordial, harmless, innocent dogs alive....

check this out--

It was about eight at night---around Christmas. This was my last stop and the house had a long driveway with very little light.

I walked down the driveway and as I approached the house I noticed a screen door ---ya know, one of those that are pretty nice that just have a big 'ol peice of glass and you can see through real well? I also noticed that the regular door was open and only the screen door was closed(locked?? shut good?? ajar???)

Well, it looked like they didnt want to be bothered, so I just decided to lay the parcel down and go on back to the hub. . . . as soon as I bent down to lay the parcel down---BAM out of nowhere come two huge boxers jumping about five foot in the air on to the screen door(I am surprised they didnt nock it over)

It happened quick and I was bit startled---but now I look back and think about how much of a sissy I must have looked like.:D

you don't have to. it's basically a tradition now. i'm not religious at all. if i was ever in court and was told to put my hand on the bible and say something, i would refuse and say i'm not religious. i believe marlon brando once did this in real life. (see http://www.celebatheists.com)

It has to do with ceremony.

The placing of the hand on the bible adds a physical element to the event, adding gravity that in combination with the "magic words" (usually invoking the power of a higher being) impresses upon the individual the seriousness of what is taking place.
