Latino Award shows?

I've just finished reading about the MTV Latin Video Music Awards 2004.
And I'm starting to wonder why the latino enternainment community feel the need to have their own awardshows, and such?
Of course I don't mind ;) I'm just curious

Do you think there would be reactions if white people had similar arrangements, btw do they? What about other ethnic groups, do they all have their own awardshows?
Facinating concept this?

It's out of control. If a white person ever created a TV station called White Entertainment Television, there would be riots and every person in the world would burn him/her at the stake. I am amazed at how everyday I see commercials on TV blatantly depicting Italians as mobsters and dumb thugs, perpetuating stereotypes. But that doesn't matter, it only matters when it is about blacks/latinos eve asians to some degree. In society's efforts to combat racial profiling, they have actually made it worse by making laws and social norms based on a person's race meant to help them, when all it is really doing is feeding the problem. Then again, you have certain groups saying that they don't want to be viewed/judged on their color/religion/race/sexuality, yet these same people turn around and put rainbow bumper stickers on their cars, hold Latino award shows, march in Gay Rights parades, etc., labeling themselves only when it is convenient but damning the rest of the world for doing the same when it doesn't work in their favor.

I could not have said it any better my self.

Latino music is it's own category. How come you don't say about Country music having it's own show?

Country isn't an ethnicity.

Redneck may as well be.

Good point I guess. But country music is soooooo far away from what I consider good music, that it didn't even cross my mind.

J-Lo, Shakira, Marc Anthony and Ricky Martin are all eligble for an award, but they are all in the category pop music, right?
