Lasik Eye Surgery Consultation Tomorrow...

I did! Two years ago. Well, because my eyes tend to be dry I had something they called "Lasek" which has a slightly longer recovery time (and hurts while healing) but leaves no scar.

Best thing I ever did. Regular laser surgery has no pain post-op. Even what I had wasn't too bad ... well, it felt like I had gravel in my eyes for a couple days but pain pills took care of that.

Just go for the best, not the cheapest. The place I went to conducts numerous studies, submits scientific papers, etc. They also had the most types of lasers than anywhere else in my area.

Oh, and do ask about studies. I was able to cut 50% from my surgery for agreeing to participate. All I had to do was come back six months later and let them dialate my eyes again.

I had it done years ago and I wear glasses now. lol But I was really bad and the glasses are thin.

I guess he`s gotta be experienced, Done many procedures. Success rate on ALL his patients not just the "Good" cases. If you could speak to a few patients it would be even better. The night vision (glare) is the #1 complaint. I can`t drive at night.

Not sure if you know #`s. I was -16 and I`m down to -2.5 That`s pretty good I guess. good luck.

The guy I am going to see is the top in my state. Highly recommended, very educated, very experienced. I'd rather pay a lot more and feel comfortable with my choice in Doc! It is my eyes!

Studies - never thought of that. I'll have to ask. Thanks 2Shy.

Thanks for the thoughts.

My only regret was that I waited too long to do it.

How bad was your eyesight before you did it?

Mine were terrible Almost blind. lol Maybe not technically but I was BAD. I`m sure they improved alot over the years too. It cost me 6k.

I always hear success stories but I got lucky. lol

I want to do this one day but I don't mind wearing glasses that much.

can they change eye color yet?

I'll do this someday oo but not now...I don't trust for the simple reason that there are so many docs that still wear glasses...

One very important thing to consider is your pupil size. If your pupils get so large in the dark that they expand outside of the surgery area, then you'll get vision distortion. There are many people with this condition who didn't find out until after they had the surgery - their doctors never warned them about it.

http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/pupil_size.htm

I'm a large pupil person, so I haven't had the surgery. My husband had it and got great results. The new "Wave" lasik might work for me but I haven't looked into it. I think I'll wait a little longer.

I had the rk done 8 years ago before they had lasik and I am still glad I did it. Worth every penny. You will love it daisy girl.

My only advice is to request or demand 2 different people do the initial machine measurments 2 seperate times that will be used to make the refractive adjustments during the actual procedure.
Most times this is why the outcome is not good.
Someone did not do the measurments correctly.

If they say no, go elsewhere.

I couldn't see at all without my glasses. Everything was a big blur. Well, close up was okay.

I wanted the surgery (well it wasn't laser then) ever since 1984 when a lady I worked with had the old RK (or maybe it was something different then).

Daisy -

How did the consultation go? I've been thinking about having this done for such a long time, but I'm quite nervous about it -

My eyes are 20/325 in the right eye and 20/375 in the left, but they are always sore and start to hurt in bright light.

Keep us posted about what you decide to do!

Those sound like bad numbers, I don`t know what they mean really. I just know mine were -16 That`s it. Now after the procedure I see 20/40 with glasses. But they`re very thin and comfortable compared to what I would be wearing without the procedure.

I actually NEVER wore glasses (only contacts) because they were SO THICK if I wore them. I never owned a pair before the surgery. Good luck on your decision. I think you can`t really go wrong.

Yes -16 is very very bad! lol! The fact they got it back down to -2.5 is amazing.

One thing you have to consider if you get Lasik is have your eyes stopped changing yet?? You can only get the procedure done ONCE which is why it's not wise to get it done at a young age. If your eyes have not "leveled" out you may want to reconsider getting the surgery.

You know what they say.... "Once you go cyborg, you never go back...." Of course I would reccomend cybernetic implantation of mechanical optical devices....

I did that. Almost passed out when the doc was fingering my eyeballs. I turned white and started sweating profusely laying in the reclining chair at the doc`s office.

20/235 basically means that what others with normal eyesight can see at 325 ft, you must be only 20 ft away to read it..

See, I ain't up with some fool digging all in my eyeballs and stuff. I don't wear contacts because i'm afraid of poking myself.

How did it feel when they shaved open your cornea with the cordless shaver....

Being a cyborgbor- it would not bother me....

yep, that sounds about right.

#1 I don`t think everyone has to have their eyes fondled. The doc`s did it to me as a precaution.

#2 Y_lifter thanks for the explanation. Do you know what -16 means? That was my eyesight pre-op now it`s 20/40 with glasses.

#3 You have to be awake when they fold over your cornea and looking right at it f course. lol My wife watched the whole procedure.

PS the night I got home (after the procedure) I could`nt go to sleep because I was SO excited I could see without glasses. EVERYTHING was so clear. It was like being born again. Just can`t explain it. I just layed in bed staring at everything, Mostly the VCR clock at the other end of the room. It was SO clear. lol

Before that I would look at my watch and it would have to be 6 inches from my face. lol

[/B]

It indicates the amount of magnification or subtraction in the lens
prescription..

Clear glass would be 0
-2 would mean 2 diopters magnification distance for nearsighted
+2 would mean +2 diopters correction for reading as in farsighted

The higher the number the worse off you are..

I am at like -5.25 and think I can't see much, so you must be about blind..

Thanks bro. lol Yes I was blind. But just to show how much the procedure helped I guess. Now I`m -2.5 from -16 lol. Now I still wear glasses but they can be any style or weight frames.

I don`t think I could wear lenses anymore. That`s another thing to consider when deciding.

I think the restriction on wearing contacts after refractive surgery is not as set in stone as it was with the blade..

It depends on how much the must laze off the cornea I think..

GL, forgot to add that I was off the scale as far as vision before the surgery.

Could you see yourself in the mirror while they did the surgery? Ewwww.

I could`nt see in the mirror while they were doing the surgery. You just lay face up on a table and they cut away. My wife watched though.

My eye doc told me about a new contact lens you wear at night that reshapes your eye while you sleep, Then you take it out in the morning to have perfect vision for the whole day (or 2 not sure) This has nothing to do with the lasik stuff. He just offered that to me now cause he knew I wanted to get rid of my glasses.

I had the lasik done almost 4 years ago and I haven't had a problem. I would do it again in a heartbeat. :)

Actually my procedure was "redo it as needed for life" lol When I asked if I coild correct it again for better eyesight they told me I could`nt do it anymore. lol wtf?

Having PRK done on dec.11th....my cornea was too thin for lasik

Did you evr get the procedure done? How did it go?
