Las Vegas to Tijuana

does anyone know how long it takes to drive from Vegas to San Diego? I will be in Vegas in a couple of weeks, and thinking about taking a day trip to Tijuana.

It takes about 5 hours normally (maybe less) to get just to SD. Then another 30 minutes to TJ.

Given stops and all, it would run a 6 hours easy. A big factor is that you will drive right through SD - so dont do that at rush hour.

However just getting to TJ is half the battle, you still need to know where to go and how to deal with it - and I assume you know that (and please dont ask how on the boards).

It would be a really long day with a 700 mile round trip, plus the time to-from TJ. Kind of like deciding to go to lunch in San Antonio when you're on a trip to Dallas....

Getting there is easy (5-6 hrs. from LV), coming back is another matter if you're driving. This is the busiest border crossing in the world, so be prepared for a long ass wait. You're better off parking at the border and cross on foot, as downtown TJ is only walking minutes away.
Be warned: do not trust anyone!!! Locals will spot you as a tourist and offer all kind of shit: prostitutes, drugs, good time etc. Use your own judgment.

it's actually a very easy drive - I've done it several times. It takes less than 5 to get to SD, then about another 30 min to TJ. Park on US side, then walk over - or take the bus. Leave Vegas EARLY - like 6am. You'll get to TJ mid-morning do your business over there quickly, then leave. If you cross back to the US early afternoon (like by 1-2), the wait won't be bad.

To avoid traffic, you have to be smart about when you are driving. A mid-week day is best. If you can, go on a weekday - not Fri, Sat or Sun.

And Tigrones is right - just ignore everyone - they'll try to sell you anything and everything.
