Laptop batteries

Aside from not leaving your laptop plugged in all the time with the battery in - how else can you prolong the life of your battery?

a guy at best buy told me that when you get a new battery, you should charge it up, then drain it all the way down...a lot like a cell phone. said it extends the life of the battery. I did for mine and it seems to hold power to it. not sure it this is accurate or not, but is food for thought.

My first one has lasted about 19 months or 20 I can't remember - now it only gets about 40 min of life instead of 120-150 min.

Remove the battery from the laptop when you don't forsee the need for battery power.

What kills you is the discharge/recharge cycles - there is a finite amount of them on the batteries.

Don't charge batteries to 100% if they are going to sit idly for some time. Just go to about 95%.

Don't charge the battery until it falls to about 50% or so....if convenient.

Take the battery out when using the power adapter.


They are only expected to last a year or so with heavy usage.

I have found name brand new ones on ebay for good prices. Also been screwed on ebay many times. Its an exciting ride. Bought a new IBM battery there for $40.


btw....I thought girls were battery experts?
