Ladies, your opinions please

I have a question but have background first:

I saw a girl at the gym on Saturday morning about 11am, make occassional eye contact and say hello at the water cooler.
I get changed and leave and she is right behind me. Once outside, I strike up the conversation and gereral chit-chat.
Once we are about to part ways, I ask if she has her phone and I will give her my number. She says she doesn't have her phone but will give me her number instead.
I get the number and go home.
Sunday evening I message her for coffee on Wednesday evening. I get a response back around 4 hours later saying: 'Hey I can't I've got my bf's sisters 21st!'

Now the question: why on earth would a girl give a guy from the gym she had only just met her number if she was in a relationship? It doesn't make sense to me...

I don't believe for a second that a girl who gives her number to a guy then changes her mind because he sends a text instead of calling. Highly unlikely.
 
Yeah but why the bf reference?
Boyfriend or best-friend?
What are the chances of salvaging anything at all or should I just leave it?

why not? guys do that all the time. doesnt make sense but it happens. maybe by "bf" she meant best friend though? (yeah right..lol)

Fed up with these complex bullshit flirting/dating games.
 
She even told me the times she goes to the gym and asked when I go.
I mean, I'd be surprised if she really does have a boyfriend.

My crown? The same place as my Halo - slipped around my neck and choking me.

be smart my friend...her boyfriend probably doesnt go to the gym OR he doesnt go during the time she does.. so...either she's:

1. she's asking when you go so that she can meet you there because her bf doesnt go..

or

2. she wants to know when you go in order to play it safe

its been done to me.. trust me..
 
I once had this real beautiful girl in one of my college English classes. I had met her years earlier when she was a waitress at El Chico's. I remember thinking that she was one of the most beautiful girls I'd ever seen. In a class one night, I asked her out and she was kind of standoffish. She approached me weeks later and asked if I was still interested in going out. She and her boyfriend had broken up. She was the one that got away. Very nice as well as beautiful. I went to a movie with her and didn't say a word the whole time. She thought I didn't like her and I thought the same thing. I found this out while I was with my ex-wife. Damn.

Why would she say Boyfriend....Smurf might be right with the best friend thing...She would have just lied about the boy friend if she was interested in you...
 
She most likely meant boyfriend but she's planning to cheat on him and you're a possible option. She's playing it safe since she knows when you go to the gym. next time you meet her, dont be a pussy and find out what is the deal.

thats true. however, it is only fair to let that person know.. i believe that most of the time, the bf/gf doesn't "know" that they are not the one, thus putting 110% into the relationship while the other doesn't.
 
Uh oh. I give males my number if they ask me for it, and I think they are nice. That doesn't mean I want to go out with them. For me, it just means I am just being friendly. I really didn't know that guys assume that you want them if you give them the number. Most of my friends are guys. Go figure. I do try to drop the boyfriend word into initial conversations though so that no one gets the wrong idea. Yeah, but I have seen girls use bf to mean best friend. Why don't you call and ask her what it meant?

LOL...I guess I just don't assume someone "wants" me unless they tell me that they do. I figure guys and girls can be "just friends." Don't you?
 
If she is cheating on him she will cheat on you too, so its a waste of your time, just get some ass and toss it to the curb. And I wouldnt doubt at all if she meant BF because like someone said above, she would of just lied about her boyfreind thing if she wanted you...Just talk to her at the gym and ask her out to dinner or just ask if she would like to go back to your place for anal sex.
