WHat the fuck ?........ I heard this before but it intertest me at all. But this morning while reading the newspaper I found a pretty good article on Laden's life. And guess what ? The CIA helped him back in 1984 during the Afghan war against the Soviets. During a 2 years period Talibans (who were called Muja something lol) received all kind of support including Stinger missiles and money. Its just after the Gulf war that Laden turned against the US.

This story reminds me the Vietnam war in one aspect. Remember that the Vietcong used to be mostly former Vietmhins during the Indochine war against France. Indeed, the US armed those Vietnamese to fight against colonialism.....then less that 10 years after they were involved in a war against them lol

Now some people at the CIA should be brought to justice......

dont be suprised

the CIA has helped set up lots of oppressive reigimes in africa and iran purely so they would serve their needs. after those needs were served they would wash thier hands leaving the country in turmoil with many being killed

Yes, in 1983, the US did help to train Usama Bin Ladin and his men. We did sell them arms and helped them to defend their land. We did this to ensure that no one country would have control over most of the worlds oil. If we hadn't stepped in in situations like this, most of us would be walking or riding a bike to work, because some arab nation would have us by the balls. Sometimes you just have to trust your nations leaders. and hindsight is always 20/20. We had no way of knowing then.

I see your point buddy.....but I would in no circumsyances trust muslims......

There is more to thsi than meets the eye.

Afghanistan was the USSR's VietNam only worse. It drained them of considerabel financial resources. However, it was worse than that.

At that time the Taliban were called the mujahadeen (sp?) or whatever. They obviously were Muslims. Much of teh Soviet Army was comprised of Muslims as well. But teh USSR didnt trust these guys to fight against the mujahadeen. The Muslims in the Soviet Army were generally poorer and lower on the social ladder. (Not to be funny but kind of like much of the American South)

So the USSR had to send many true Russians against the Afghans. They had to use the better educated children of more well to do families (yes even in Communism there are social classes) to fight this enemy.

As such a lot of the USSRs best and brightest died in the war. This gap could not (and cannot) be filled. Afghanistan had a lot to do with the fall of the USSR, and teh absence of much of that generation is largely responsible for the problems there now.

At teh time out goal was to weaken the USSR. It worked.

Our oil dependency really sucks huh? Support nuclear power.

Err....like no. If you research we came to the aid of the French and Australians (who were helping the French) to defeat the Vietcong. The USA could care less about protecting them from colonialism......in fact in some ways we support colonialism in the form of multinational corporations (these days) and most certainly our only interest in that region at that time was to stop Communism from spreading from China into neighboring countries.

where u been all this time fabby wabby, this is like the first post u made in months....did the linin park boards tempt u away?

MATT, "(Not to be funny but kind of like much of the American South)"

Much implies majority. Your ass better call somebody! hahaha.

A few states in the South always rank in the lower 10 in State and citizen Property and liquid value, however you might want to check out the value of a couple of those state around you. Also dollar per person I believe I remember reading that Texas is much higher than many of the northern states including NY. We may be dumb red necks with cows in our yard and an oil field out back, but we do have some cash.

Now let's get back in line. Start pushing for this WAR thing for the President.

Check,

hahahahaha OK....

It was a bad comparison. A better one would be:

Afghanistan for the Soviets was like Viet Nam fior us, except they had to use upper class soldiers. Imagine how fast we would have ended the war in VietNam if college kids were going - the children of more well to do parents - rather than teh draftees who were typically poor, and often southern.

That is what happened in teh USSR with Afghanistan.

You know I would like to see retaliation.

Oh yeah, note: According to a former director of Central Intelligence, "there is no distinction between a CIA asset and an agent." -This comes from a transcript of the DCI meeting with community leaders in South Central regarding the CIA shuttling crack into LA.

Naw, I've been on mostly anabolic boards and only occasionally check out this chat board. I've grown tired of all the right-wing popularity, heel clicking and goose stepping going on. Poor intellectual arguments and every post is just like the other. No fun.

That linkin park thing was a lot of fun though.....maybe I'll start scouting some other message boards....hehe

it would be cool

we'd get a reputation ;)

we could start up a kinda WWF/WCW invasion thing :FRlol:

true i ge bored with the forum sometimes...then i go to elite between the sheets and uhhh get ummmm excited :dodgy: .....:)

Like daneilson said dont' be surprised. Saddam was a CIA asset for a time as well.

I believe Noriega was also trained by CIA and a graduate of Louisiana State University.

There are times in history where we have to make tough
choices as a country, about who to support in crisis.
Sometimes these choices are between supporting someone
who is bad, or letting something happen that could be worse.

Have we supported people that we wish we had not? yes
But, the big question is, how bad would it have been if we
just sat on our hands, and did nothing.

Sorry the Soviet banned Muslim from their Armed Forces in 1971 in case of rise of fundamentalism and rebellions in Muslim Republics

But they uses them as translators, advisors bla bla bla!!!!

Yeah i think Bush Sr. was eluding to how the CIA should use "unsavoury" types again for human intelligence, better to have an Osama type of guy working for you to destroy your enemies than actually become one of them. Osama was so pissed at the saudis when they didn't use him to fight Iraq but instead used america dn britain, i guess he was no longer on the U.S. pyroll or getting weapons/trainning. Maybe he got jealous.

Funny most wars don't come down to religion or freedom or anythig like that most wars are about:

MONEY (in todays world=oil+land)

actually War is about everything!!!!!

Many Scholars argues that the future wars will be ethnic war,
why because the deterrence of the Nuclear weapon doesnt affraid because its low intesity conflict ex: Rwanda, Somalia, Balkan etc...
