I guess it depends on what you are looking for?

As a pure self-defense system its excellent...but, there is no philsophy behind it, so alot of people do it for a few months and then drop out.

I think its a craze - like BJJ, and will drop back into obscurity in a few months.

Try it out and see how it goes.

Spanky11,

Hey mon, I was mulling over trying it, too. I am looking for a MA that combines hand and foot work with grapling and practical self defence.... any other suggestions?

I guess where you live there isn't all that much to choose from ...would it be just for you, or would you take some of your boys?

From what I've heard it's a fad and the only guy I know who does it is a focken chode, but why not give it a try.

lol thats a great endorsement!

seriously though, there is something to learn from any martial art, it just depends on your outlook, and the amount of time you are willing to devote to it.

exercise caution on the the places that are propping up everywhere offering intro courses into krav maga - there are ALOT of people trying to cash in on this craze.

Good advice. I always wanted to be a feckin chaud.

Need to suss out who is teaching the Krav here, if its a JĂłnni ComeLatelyson, then its off the schedule.

I am looking into starting for myself and for my two oldest boys (10 and 6 years old) and realize that their needs/direction are not mine. We can't study together anyway, so this is not a defining factor...

I say it is a fad because from what I can see/hear it is advertising itself as a 'train with us for X time period and become the complete fighter'.

not sure how i get that it's a fad......but i can see maybe it is gaining some recent popularity.

If it works with the Israeli IDF, it's got to be pretty good. There's a place that teaches KM where I like, they also stress a lot of physical conditioning there as well. I think if anything that would be a bonus. I'm going to try it out once I stop travelling so much.

Sounds pretty gay to me! I just started my Olympic swimming/karate training, two days a week. Hoping to compete in 2008.

buy a gun. cheaper and more effective

i have a gun. don't really feel like carrying it all the time.....and it isn't much good for cardio...

on a side note, the places i'm looking at taking classes, also do various things with gun training. so that could be cool. they do a lot of law enforcement classes.

Most of the places where I live are a joke, there is an Israeli transplant who just moved here, who is supposed to open a school in the coming months. There are a lot of great schools on the West Coast, not sure about Philly. At any rate, it's a tough MA. My foundation is in Kenpo, but the little KM I have been involved with I liked. :)
