Knee Wraps...

anyone wrap their knees for SQ's? i just use neoprene wraps. pretty thin, mostly to keep the area very warm. do you think it really adds to the lift? or would it be a placebo type effect?

Dude....

2 days ago in the gym I saw the most BIZARRE thing I have ever seen.

Dude was wearing a squar suit UNDER a pair of jean shorts. He WRAPPED form mid-calf ALL THE WAY half way up his thighs......then kicked off his shoes and worked UP to a whopping 5 plates per side on the leg press.

He had his arms crossed in form of him...between his chest and thighs and pushed off after every rep.....the screams began on rep 4 and lasted until he was finished on rep 7 or 8.

He then jumped up and whipped off the wraps....did 3 or 4 bodyweight squats and then sat on the flooe bwtween stes

W T F??!?!?!?!?

However - they will MOST DEFINITELY help in the hole.....just dont get dependent on them as they can weaken the knee area if used ALL the time.

Think about a weight lifting belt and deads...same kinda theory

wraps or neoprene sleeves?

I think I should pick up some sleeves for joint warmth... my knees pop all the time, don't want to have to replace them too soon.

and LOL @ imagining that dood... jumping up from leg presses and being all bad assish

Wraps help a lot. With knee wraps on and tight, I can't get down to parallel with just bodyweight, despite my prodigious bulk. You might get 40 or 50 pounds out of a good pair, well wrapped, but expect some bruising.

I wear the neoprene knee sleeves on cold days during warmup and at any time my knee is giving me grief since they seem to add a little stability to the joint. I suppose they'll give a few ounces of push out of the hole, maybe even more, but I wouldn't worry about the difference in that respect. I often roll them down once my warmups are over.

I use a pair of Inzer wraps every other week. When I started using them I could move larger weight, and that in turn led to larger legs. I just go completely raw the other weeks to keep from getting dependent on them.

I don't use them and not sure why you would need them except maybe for some kind of injury for a short time? I don't use belts or suits either. I feel like if you don't need it don't use it cause it may take away from the body learning to adapt and handle the weight safely on its own.

SQ's are my fave, i guess. i just use the sleeves (drugstore shelf sleeves) to keep the area warm. it's winter now & i still wear shorts, because i hate squatting in pants of any sort. same with pulls. my gym is fucking old and drafty, so you can cool off right quick. i just don't want to be short changing myself.

Then I think you're fine with the sleeves. You may already know this but PL wraps aremeant to add weight to yoru squat, and if you use them regularly you stand the chance of having muscles that could overpower your lifaments/tendons.

yeah, i never use anything, or used. till i started getting joint pain. now that was replaced with inner thigh pain...

Personally, if you want my two cents, I would just take it light for a bit, and maybe take extra time on warmups. I don't see the sleaves causing any potential problems, but using wraps as a way to get around an injury could be problematic IMHO.

I'd agree with G5; if you're injured then bite the bullet and back off. I know I've mentioned it in other threads but I recently went right back to just the bar on squats and worked up slowly from there after finding myself unable to do even body-weight squats after a knee-twist.
