Kiss has their place in rock and roll and you can't dispute that. by today's music standards, they'd get ignored if they just came out. different story in the 70s and 80s.

just cause the general pop buys their albums is not a accurate scale of the quality of their work. A lot of shitty ass movies/albums/etc have sold high units, that does not make them good.

human target actually sounds like he was a kid in the 70s. I was too, and he's right on target with the kiss vibe.
In general, rock music (certainly hip-hop and pop too) is simple minded music theater. Elvis sucked, the Beatles sucked, Hendrix too sucked, musically, compared to say Bach or Mozart. But rock has very little to do with music, but more with attitude.
In terms of attitude, with Destroyer and the Theme Park movie, kiss has attitude tied down tight in the 70s.
Most modern music has nothing to do with manipulating palettes of sound and tone. Some riffs, a video, a conert T and you're good to go. You don't hear a lot of string quartets by these "artists". They're no musical geniuses.
Kiss was no different. But the time was much more restricted. Going out on a limb meant wearing leather and make-up and insinuating that you like to have sex. That's about it.
