Key West, Florida

I've never been, but I've always wanted to go. I know people who have been and some of them say that it has lost the old feeling that it use to have. They say that it is too touristy, but I still want to go. :supercool

Was there during hurricane season this year- Was still nice, despite that- Went to Jimmy Buffet's (smaller than thought)- Beaches aren't huge, but very nice and water is clear- Lotta little shops, some street performers- fun for a day or two...

i wanna go

I've been to the Keys & Key West.....nothing to do but fish & drink & everything is waaay expensive...

I've hoofed every inch of that island at least 2x. Beaches are so-so, diving mediocre, drinking rox. Its interesting to go thru the Earnest Hemingway House & get your pic taken at the Southernmost Point (Cuba 90 miles south). Duvall on a Sat night can be interesting -- Key West is primarily for drinking. If you are going to go down there if you have like 4+ days, I'd get a place on the beach in Miami, get on the club lists at the hotel so you can see South Beach night life, hang on the beach, etc (also keep in mind Mar / Apr are spring break months, so plan ahead), then get a rental car & cruise the Keys. You can do a snorkeling trip in Key Largo (contact one of the dive shops like Ocean Divers there & see what they have to offer), hit whatever is going on at the Sand Bar at Islamorada and then roadtrip to Key West for a day or two. Its a 4 hr drive down from Miami, but if you've never been down that way, it is different.

Personally speaking, the best time to hit Key West is during Fantasy Fest or New Year's. I can't handle more than 2 days there otherwise. If you are looking to just kick it for a few days w/o your Sig Other, then find a nice bed & breakfast down there & just relax.

Best description ever. Especially the "can't handle more than 2 days part".

LOL! I've burned a lot of brain cells down there. There is nothing else there but booze. And nekkid people. But the thing people don't realize is just how isolated the Keys are -- even Key Largo is like a small town in the midwest. Everyone is in everyone else's business and it gets REAL old after about 2 days. Even the diving is limited. Only a handful of wrecks and once you've been to Molasses Reef, you've been there too much. I do HIGHLY recommend diving the Bibb, the Duane and definitely the Speigel Grove. Make sure you are Advanced certified tho. Otherwise find a nice lawn chair next to a pool or on the beach and get comfy w/ the rum & cokes.

Oh, damn I almost forgot -- if you do go to Key West, definitely go to the square at the end of Duvall St. (can't remember it right now ... Marshall? or something) -- there are all sorts of street vendors and stuff for the "Sunset Festival" every nite. There was even this French Canadian guy who had a cat show -- just like the big cats at the circus, except these are regular domestic cats who he gets to jump thru hoops & stuff. The guy also seems pretty tanked when he does it so its a good show!
