People seem to act as if before keto diets no one could ever get cut without loosing muscle. Maybe I am wrong but aren't keto diets best for untrained obese people? I just want so type of reason why keto is prefered over complex carbs and clean protein typically followed...

I'm using keto due to the hype but does anyone REALLY knwo why trained bodybuildrs trying to get down to single digits bf really use these types of diets besides that everyone says to

"If glucose requirements are high but glucose availability is low, as in the initial days of fasting, the body will break down its own protein stores to produce glucose. This is probably the origin of the concept that low carbohydrate diets are muscle wasting. An adequate protein intake during the first weeks of a ketogenic diet will prevent muscle loss by supplying the amino acids for gluconeogenesis that would otherwise come from body proteins.

By extension, under conditions of low glucose availability, if glucose requirements go down due to increases in alternative fuels such as FFA and ketones, the need for gluconeogenesis from protein will also decrease. "

it's all about keeping your muscle while burning fat for energy, not sugar.

There was a pretty decent study done recently that showed that insulin-resistant folks lost more fat on a low carb, high protein diet (though not keto) than a higher carb, lower protein diet. Not only that, but their metabolism stayed higher. In contrast, people who were not insulin-resistant lost fat equally well on either diet as long as calories were kept the same. Bottom line is that a low carb diet works well for everyone, a higher carb diet will also work well for folks with good slin sensitivty.

keeping muscle is the issue, wieght loss for us is alot different than regualr people and even some of use its even more delicate... I'm trying to go from 10-11% to 6-7% thats the hardest part
