Kanye may have actually hurt the people he thought he was defending with his statements as there definately will be a sour taste in people's mouth about the benefit. NBC, with a very liberal editorial staff, cut away in a hurry. I actually thought Mike Myers was preparing a rebuttal.
 
You can see how he's trying to hold himself back and seems truly uneasy and hurt, but that's still a very childish and ignorant way to act in public, especially on tv. Who knows though? Maybe that's the kind of brutal statement that will get a message across.

But I doubt it's the right one.

Mike Meyers' eyes got as big as saucers when he realized Kanye said that.

Regardless of the shock factor he was drying to induce.....he lost a lot of willing supporters who prabably had their phone in hand dialing and a lot of others who decided not to pick it up at all after those statements.

Inexcuseable.

i agree that that was neither the time nor the place to bring up that kind of comment...if it is a fundraiser do your job and RAISE funds to help people and put your personal/political beliefs aside...i think that is what we are all forgetting here - everyone is arguing on how bush is wrong or he is not responding fast enough while the other side says he is doing everything he can and IS responding as best he can...we forget the task at hand and need to stop fighting and help the people in need...

i think that what kanye believes is fine...and he could say that if he wishes...just not where he said it...no need for that little interjection

i do social work @ my second job, and i work with lots of blacks from the hood. its really saddening how they bring themselves down. if any of them are "successful" the others hate them. its crazy. :worried:

When a lot of people think of racism, they think of white against other races. However, a lot of the oriental subgroups (for lack of a better term) are also racist against each other. & different aboriginal peoples on each continent against each other.

no blacks are the most racist group there is these days IMO especially towards themselves. If a black person decides he wants to get an education, don't remain in the hood, be succesful, he is an outcast "Uncle Tom" "Oreo" etc etc to me that is completly fucking sad but what I always say if they don't want em we'll take him, and they can have all our white trash/wiggers I'd rather live in an area where its all hard working people who speak properly, no ghetto slang I hate that shit, regardless of skin color, to me this is more about culture and attitude then color. The levee in New Orleans was only capable of containing up to a catagory 3 hurricane. Everyone knew the risks involved b/c there was such a tragedy in the sixties not to the same extent though. There were plans to enlarge the levee but guess who cut funding for that project...yup Bush. He's an ass and needs to be impeached. As for gas prices at an all time high as well, perhaps if he hadn't completly done away with the fuel alternative projects to make money for drilling oil in the middle of nature conservations we wouldn't be in this predicament; and don't even get me started on stem cell research. I agree that the blame can be disperced to others besides Bush, I'm sure there are other instances where people 'dropped the ball', this is evident in the outcome. However are you willing to admitt that if there was more attention put into the funding of the levee that could have resulted in saving the thousands of lives lost, and who has the most power when it comes to funding, the President of course. It's just another example of knowing the dangers of a potential situation and not doing anything abou it, Bush seems to have a history with that, I don't claim to know all that is involved but responsobility needs to be taken and if measurment would have been taken to prevent this sit., it of course would not have happened.

So if the levees had been funded properly they would have had a stamped, sealed and recorded guarantee that they could have withstood a cat. 3, 4, 5 hurricane? When dealing with mother nature, we constantly roll the dice and she will win eventually. She always does. Several towns have now been reclaimed by the Mississippi river and gulf that were marshes to start with before we decided to backfill them and turn them into towns.

NO didn't get hit directly by Katrina. They were on the weaker side of the storm but close enough to get the northeast tailwind from her as she passed up through Mississippi. That tailwind or backside of the storm is what caused the waters around NO to pile up on the levee long enough to breach it.

It was reportedly only a 40-60 feet breached and easily manageable at that point. Nobody ventured out to see if the levees were breached because the water started subsiding and everybody relaxed. We all heard Mayor Nagin say on live TV on Tuesday (I think) water is rising but we do not know where it is coming from. Mind you, this was after the storm had passed. People went to bed Monday night dry and woke up wet the next day after they thought they had dodged a bullet.

Every year, coastal towns review and update emergency plans. They meet with local, state, and federal officials to make any necessary changes. 3 days is what it would take to evacuate NO. The plan they have is on the web and easily found and it appears to be a genuinely well thought out plan with provisions for every living soul in NO except the cockroaches. They (NO & LA officials) knew (By receiving a call from the NHC) on Friday this was going to be too close for comfort. When did they order the evacuation? Sunday morning. Way too late to organize any kind of coordinated effort.

Nagin said on live TV when he was announcing the mandatory evacuation that he and the governor received a call from the POTUS begging him to evacuate his citizens. He stated Saturday night before Katrina when asked about evacuating the people and why he hadn't ordered it, I am going to have to confer with city attorneys and sleep on it Saturday night and I will have an announcement for you. What kind of care and compassion does that display? He is too fucking worried about being sued than saving lives.

He got pissed off when he got interupted during his dinner Saturday evening with his family to answer questions on why he hadn't ordered the evacuation!
WTF? He carelessly said these things usually miss NO at the last minute. WTF again?

You can have the best laid plans available and in place but if it starts off screwed up with the attitude of it won't happen to us, it compounds quickly and deteoriates to what is now.

Everyone needs to share blame in this. For starters, any abled body person who had two good legs and could walk should have gotten the hell out of there even if it was only to the SuperDome and I think I saw plenty of them on TV on roofs and in the streets, white, black, blue or purple...it doesn't matter. The victims are the small children and the disabled and those that care for them. They never had a chance. They were forgotten in this tragedy of tradegies.

There will be a congressional investigation into all of this and heads will roll although probably the ones who are higher up in government will probably be slapped on the wrist and told not to fuck up again.

I'm tired from this typing and don't feel like opening up the other can of worms you stated.

You aint going to see the end of this for a long time. Liberals love victims, and now we got a whole city full of them. Not just victims, but black victims. No matter what Chimpy does; it won't be good enough.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will be down there as soon as they get a five star hotel that's good enough for them up and running, demanding somebody pay them because black people in Louisiana got flooded out.

Liberal black public officials in Louisiana will be held absolutely blameless; it was Chimpy what did it. Get used to hearing it.

Bush should pull all military out of the area. Those fuckers keep whining while military personnel are leaving their families behind to go help those bastards. They don't appreciate the help then fuck em. What do they want the government to do give them each a million dollars and a new house and car? Good greif this is the biggest natural disaster in US history everything that can be done is being done. We aren't going to spend 100% of the National budget on 2% of the population either. Some of these assholes that say there isn't enough being done need to specify exactly what they expect the government to do.
