<---- Just picked up for shoplifting

Yep, I was just charged with theft in the 5th degree.

I left my house with about $35 dollars today to run some errands. I had to drop off some paperwork, grabbed some fast food, got a haircut, and went to a store similar to Wal-Mart to pick up some hair color.

I spent $4.50 on food, my haircut cost $19 + a $3 dollar tips for a grand total of $22.

So I walk into the last store with $9.50. I walk to the hair color dept expecting to spend 6 dollars tops. Of all the hair color choices they offered the only one that was the color I want cost $10.49. I was about $1 short.

I'm not sure what train of thought I went into at this point, but it wasn't a good one. I didn't feel like driving 10 miles to my house to grab $1.50 to pay for something so petty.

Guess what I did? I grabbed another hair dye that cost $8.79 and switched the contents of each box.

I then proceeded to the express checkout lane, paid my $9.20 or for the hair color, and walked out non-chalantly. Big mistake. 2 seconds later security has his hands on my shoulders and escorts me to the security room. I had to walk in front of damn near 15 registers that were FULL of customers since it was rush hour. Talk about embarassing.

So we go back there and he asks if I know what he wants to talk to me about. I said yes and explained myself. He sure didn't give a shit, nor did I expect him to. 15 minutes later a cop shows up and talks to the both of us for a few minutes. He didn't seem to think it was a big deal, acted rather fondly, but he carried out his duties and wrote me up for theft in the 5th degree.

I now have to go to court next Thursday where I'll plead guilty and swallow my pride. I'm not expecting sympathy, and I don't care about the fine, but god damn this is embarassing.

The funny thing is afterwards I drove all the way home, grabbed the $2 I originally needed, went back to the store, and exchanged the items.

You may proceed with the flames while I rinse out my Chocolate Cherry hair dye.

After stealing from the store.. they allow you back in?

Damn... not the case down here. You banned from that store and all affiliates in ANY state.

Couldn't you at least steal from a Salon instead of a discount store?

heh

Like I said, I didn't plan on stealing anything in the 1st place. I don't think I've stolen anything since I was 9 yrs old, and even then it was just $3 chinese stars at an Oriental shop. You had to be 18 to purchase or else I would have paid for them.

Not that it means much or changes the facts of the matter, but I could have exchanged the product into a $4-6 dollar box but I felt obligated to use all the money I had on me.

Wow...that stinks! It wasn't worth the $2 or whatever, was it?? It never is, in retrospect.

I got busted for shoplifting from acme once when I was about 7 or 8...I stole candy. Man my parents beat me for that one!!

I'm banned for 1 year and have to pay a $100 fine.

The security manager told me I could get my refund before leaving the store if I'd like but I talked him into letting me go grab the 2 dollars.

you should've walked into the bathroom before paying for the hair color and dyed your hair. you could've also picked up a hawaiian shirt, a pair of sunglasses, a fake beard, and a straw hat on your way to the bathroom so that the security guard would've had no idea it was you. clean getaway baby!!! cost: $0 then you could take the money you didn't spend and get a solid 3-4 hours worth of riding the coin operated buggy out front.

I was caught shoplifting only once, when I was 17 and bought my first car. I thought I had good hands at the time and had a lot of pride. Went into store , similar to Wal-Mart to look check out their auto section. Saw many things I liked , didn't make myself very obvious and pocketed two small items. Immediately saw the loss prevention guy looking at me , his face just sticking out half-way out of the isle across. We made eye contact and he instantly disappeared. I knew that I was in trouble at that moment. Decided that I pay for those items anyway, so I paid and was walking out until he approached me and took me to in for some questions. I explained myself, apologized and they called my parents to pick me up from the store. Learned a good lesson, don't steal something you can pay for. If you can't pay for it, and decide to steal it then don't get caught. :D

dude why did you get in trouble?? you never left the store with stoeln merchandise... you put them in your pocket because your arms were tired and you didn't want to carry them. you paid for them didn't you??? that's a lawsuit waiting to happen... they can't confront you until you walk out of the store...

i got caught once when i was like 12 yrs old... i used to steal baseball cards all the time (what the hell was i thinking) i'm serious i must've stolen $10,000 worth of cards over a yr or so doing it... i really forget how it all started though. i can remember walking into a gas station and walkin out with the entire display of cards. well i got caught at a similar place like wal mart... those bastards always have good security... paid like a $300 fine for doing it, which sucked and i was ashamed to be in front of my family for a while...of course the fucking cop who came thought i was some other kid who he caught at a store like 20 miles away last week... he said he felt sad for the kid so he let the kid walk out to the cop car... the kid took off and never was found....

so what did the cop do to me??? he fucking handcuffed me to escort me out... fucking 12 yr old kid getting handcuffed for stealing $20 worth of shit... my parents came to get me... i was bawling my eyes out... prolly more embarassed than scared... like 100 people saw me walk out of there... thanks fag cop... i find you and kill you now. :bawling:

I used to steal sports cards and magazines like a mofo (all my playboys, penthouses, etc...were 5-finger discounted). In fact, I stole from the same book store in a mall almost every single weekend. I'm amazed they never caught me, but it came close once...but I was always paranoid, cautious, and watchful (stay away from the mirrored bubbles in the ceiling, etc...).

In my junior year of HS, I decided to steal CDs. I got away with it a few times, but then decided to stuff my jacket with 9 CDs and proceeded to walk out of the store...right into a security guard. I was arrested and to appear in court. When my parents picked me up from the station, I felt like a total ass and couldn't help but cry from shame. 40 hours community service, a fine, and and agreeing to never go back into a Tower Records (which I promptly ignored because fuck that).

The 2nd time I was caught, it was silly...I had stolen from this department store several times before, but this time, I decided to go to the candy aisle and eat something, not paying attention to the camera bubble mounted in the ceiling above. I started to walk out, obvlious and unconcerned, but once again, security had something to say. I had to pay for the bit of candy (1-2 dollars) at a register with the guard behind me. Then, I had to sign a document stating that if I were caught here again, they would prosecute. Other than that, I got off scott free.

Ahhhh, the joys of adolescent stupidity.

I shoplift routinely for the sport. Maybe I'm lucky, because I have never even been close to getting caught.

in some states it doesn't matter. i've operated retail shops in states where the law said that concealment plus a single step toward an exit is enough to make an arrest. at minimum it's criminal intent. in another state, all i had to have was concealment.

i must've stolen $10,000 worth of cards
and now they're worth $500.

How is stealing from somebody "sport?"
It develops my finesse and skills at misdirection/subterfuge. I need to be aware of all angles, calm, quick, etc. I generally steal small items from large chains with no security or surveillance devices, so it definitely isn't for the goods I'm stealing.
