I don't know your story, but this is why animal shelters are constantly over-flowing with unwanted animals.

If you were "unable," or "unwilling," to take care of two dogs, then you had no busniness getting them in the first place.

I just can't image having to give up my two dogs. If I had to move, I would find a place that alows dogs...bottom line.

A dog or pet is different than an animal raised for production.....

How so ?
I could make the argument a cow is pretty much as intelligent as a dog.
My brother's dog, anyway....really dumb.

And all the people giving your grief over a dog,
are now going out to lunch to eat a cow or a chicken.

Man i would never eat a pet chicken or cow!................geez!

Give the guy a break, he might not have had a choice. before I moved in here I told my roomates that my dog HAS to come with me no discussion.

for awhile I thought I was going to be forced to gim him away, it would be like giving up a son.

A production animal or an animal specifically raised to be harvested is not socialized or allowed to be socialized. They are kept in pens, some too small to allow them to move, as in the case with veal, and in the case of cows, the calves are taken away from the mothers to foster separation. They are fed, watered, innoculated to speed growth & production of meat -- as in chickens they are bred & raised to produce large breast meat. Their life is short as they are slaughtered once they reach the level for optimal use in the food cycle.

A pet is a social animal as long as it's not feral. Dogs/cats are socialized & are not raised (in this country) for food. They are a choice to own/keep and once the choice is made, the animal's health & well-being are your responsibility. Responsible pet ownership means feeding, watering & having your pet spayed or neutered so as not to foster unwanted animals.

While production animals are considered "disposable" as they are consumed within a relatively short period in their life, pets such as dogs & cats are NOT disposable and are meant to be an integral part of the family for as long as they live......

Intelligence is not a factor.....I'm sure there are a large variety of cows, dogs, cats, fish, etc that are dumb & smart.....inconsequential IMO...

So.....what....you're defending this?
It's ok to kill cows because they've been inhumanely treated from the begining?

So it's ok to kill and eat a feral dog, cause it's in the same catagory as a cow, undomesticated???
It's ok to kill a dog if I ship him to Mexico first?

Well, to my mind, owning livestock is a choice, and I have the responsibility for treating them well also. Keeping them in the inhumane conditions your describe earlier seems irresponsible to me. Hey I understand our need to eat meat. I'm not a vegetarian. I eat cow like everybody.
But I'm not giving him grief about dropping off his dog at the pound.
I'm treating the dog and the cow the same: disposable when necessary

While production animals are considered "disposable" as they are consumed within a relatively short period in their life, pets such as dogs & cats are NOT disposable and are meant to be an integral part of the family for as long as they live......
Just because you choose to make such a distinction in your life doesn't make it "Truth". Everybody sees the world from their own vantage point and value system. That doesn't make it "Truth".
