They told me I have to lose 17lbs... what the fuck? Do they not take into consideration muscle vs. fat weight??

Military PRT's

When I was in the military, people who were out of the criteria for their Physical Rediness Tests (PRTs), which was mostly overweight, would be given a certain number of chances to "get fit" and if they didn't, they eventually would be "admin discharged".

The Military has a set range of weight you can be for your height. If you are overweight, they will do a stupid bodyfat test using measuring tape, comparing the ratio of neck size to waist size. However, this is if you are active. I think they want you to be within their set weight range before you ship out.

Lose some weight fat boy. Stop whining. You wanna play on their team you play by their rules.

thats true about the bf test. if your overweight and under 18% they wont kick you out unless you continue to fail your physical fitness test.

I think I was misunderstood. That's if you're ACTIVE DUTY. I think you have to fall under their weight scale in order to actually ship out though. If you're a ripped bodybuilder type, I'm sure you can get a waiver, but unless you're at 6% bf, forget it.

Maddog is right about not wanting muscle guys only skinny ass runners. I hate being told that because I can't run as fast and as far as them then I'm not as good as them. They have that If i can do it then you should do it attitude. Well I've told their skinny asses before I can bench 315 - lets go to the gym and apply your ideals.

But look at the uniforms. I'm not even that big YET. But I have the hardest time buying, tailoring and just finding uniforms that fit correctly.

To help you out. The Corp is very hard on weight standards for bootcamp. If you get on that island and are over what they say is you max wieght then you but put on fat body diet. Your t shirts will be painted with red stripes. For chow you'll be at the front of the line and you'll have to say " Diet tray, Recruit" Which means you get fed less and no deserts. Only some meat, rice and water. I was on the island when Reddick Bo tried to become a marine and he was a fat body. That probably why he left.
I hate to say it but you'll really have to want to be a Marine cause you'll loose an assload of muscle to do it.

Fat boy? Do you call people fat that have visible abs?
BTW, I'm gonna check out the navy and air foce before I make a decision.

Dude I was just fucking with you.

As for the branch of service you choose, only you know where you'll be happy. Think long and hard about it. I chose Air Force because I was raised around planes and other aircraft. I also wanted to attend college while active, and I did. Now I'm trying to get commisioned and go back in. I wanna go home (as in active).

Don't let your recruiters brainwash you. I can answer any AF questions you have.

How was basic training in the air force? The Marines recruiter was kindda downing air force. He said they don't even make you run. He told me they put you on a bike and measure your pulse or somthing and it has to fall in a certain range. Is that true??

Don't believe any recruiter when he's talking about another branch of service.

Air Force basic: Yes you run. PT starts every morning at dawn. We did group exercising, a bunch of guys in a huge field doing pushups, situps, etc. Then you ran 1.5 miles with your flight. Every day. However, I think they were changing the exercise philosophy as I was leaving to focus more on improvements over conformity. I think (but don't know) that you do more of a circuit training thing now with pushups, pullups, situps, etc. Probably still run with your flight. I've heard it's a lot more brutal but nothing you couldn't handle if you're already in decent shape.

What the Marine is talking about is once you're active. You have a fitness test you have to pass every year (or 2). You do ride a bicycle and they monitor your heart rate while they add resistance. But this is not in basic. I will be honest and say that most of the people in the Air Force are fat and out of shape. But that doesn't mean you have to be.

i just went through the same shit. i'm active duty marine and just had a weigh in and i was a few pounds over my limit and before now i was always at least ten pounds under. they made me do a bf check. i was at 11% so fuck em. hopefully ill gain another 15 before next weigh in!hehe

and my buddy just finished air force basic and it comes nowhere close to comparing to marine basic, but do not beleive erething a recruiter tells u, they r full of shit. just like a fuckin car salesman.

:FRlol: I have no doubt that Marine basic is WAY harder than Air Force basic. Hell, halfway through I was starting to WANT it to get harder. :FRlol:

I have to disagree with you there frorider...most of the fat and overweight people are DEFINATLY in the navy. Ive found the prettiest girls are in the air force. by FAR! there are some exceptions. but as a whole, AF wins. and spunky, it depends on what you want out of the service. typically, marines fight. you'll get an m-16, and go fight. army, its about half/half between fighting and desk jobs, but the thing about the army and the marines is you have to do group pt and have many formations. takes time away from you and your workout. even if you are in shape and have a set gym time, its gonna be arranged around the army/marine time. the thing i like about the AF is you have no formations, its a basic 9-5 job for the most part, and no pt after basic and tech school. i get off at 4:30pm and go straight to the gym. Also facilities are WAY better. anyway, dont want to get into it here on this board, but i can answer any questions as well and i wont bullshit ya. email me.

im seriously considering in enlisting in one branch im 17 now and a senior in high school. I'd definetly want to be infantry... with room to move up to an elite force granted im capable.. what would be best for me? Im also thinking about college which my family can easily afford so it wouldnt be one of those join and get my college payed for things.. if i went to college i'd wanna be in the ROTC so i could come in as an officer and my grades arent good enough to make an academy :(

Forget Infantry. But stay focued on college. Officer is they way to go. I myself was to lazy for college. If you go Marine then you get some infantry training and still have a non-grunt job.

alright but whats a FUN non grunt job.. if i do it its all about the excitement... and adrenaline rush thats what im after, adventure.

Right now you probably think that you'll sign up and the next day you'll be spy rigging (hangin from a helo). Not the case. Only a select few do the real stuff. The average grunt is just a dumb ass pack humping mule. They get treated like shit. Get pimped out to do shit jobs.
Only way you'd get what your looking for is if your able to make it into the BEST hardest unit of which ever branch you choose.

Go to school and become a pilot.

That's my corps your talking about. Grow 3in or lose the damn weight. LOL I think they're still doing th e old measing the neck to weight ratio. Bull shit.

well, navy is definatly not for you. and unless you went combat controller or para-rescue, af is not for you. so its either army or marines. i dont really think you want infantry. maybe it is, but have you dont a lot of research? why not army airborne? if you want elite, most of them, if not all, are by application after you are in the military and are not service specifice (ie: an air force whatever can apply for navy seal training) but you probably have the best chance i would think, if you went to the army. i actually have a friend that started in the navy, then went to the marines, now is in the army (dont ask me why) but he is very military smart and knows what to do and easiest passage to those fields. ill have him email you as soon as he can. hes also got a degree and putting in a package for officer, so he can tell you about that too. hope all this helps.

cant be a pilot unless i get corrective eye surgery which u gotta be like 20 at least to get. I know it takes hard work and dedication and im prepared for it. I wanna do the elite shit.. so officer it is either way?

Officer is the way to go. The army is bigger and will have more positions to go the advance route. Thier are only a few officers in the Force Recon.

1. If you are not an expert swimmer don't even think about recon (or seals for that fact).

2. As far as bodyfat, in the Marines (since we usually meet our quota for recruits) they are a little more selective. The Army which needs a lot more recruits would be a little less strict about bodyfat. If a recruiter wants to get you in and needs to get you in to make a quota, they will work around the body fat %. I went to bootcamp with some big guys who had to have done juice, but they got in. As long as you can pass the pft and pass the bodyfat %, you will get a waiver. In the military (at least the Marines) there are waivers for everything.

If you really want the Marines, try going to a different recruiter and see what he says.....and tell him you saw the other one and he said you needed to lose weight, I guarantee he will get you in somehow...You will become a number for him as opposed to the other recruiter and, I know this because my friend is literally one of the best recruiter's in the country, those numbers are everything. Peace.
