Just got back from the Doc

Just got confirmed from the Doc that the bulge I get in my groin when I cough or flex my abs is in fact a hernia.
No pain at all ever...noticed it by accident a few weeks ago. I can lift heavy with absolutely no pain...I was refered to a specialist, but my doctor said he may leave it up to me whether or not I want to get it fixed...I don't know what to do...Anyone have a hernia operation? If so how long were you down?...I'm in the middle of a cycle and would hate to interupt it if I don't have to...Thanks

Dude, get that taken care of ASAP. It may not bother you know, but your just a couple deadlifts away from the pain. They only put you out for a couple weeks. Do yourself a favor. Good luck.

I had a couple hernia operations when I was a child. Not too much of a problem. My hernia was in my groin also and was very large. No pain but always the risk of it bursting.

I take it you are a mature adult so it is a little more difficult. You'll be laid out for a week or two because after puberty something closes off that causes them to take another route to get at the area. Sorry I don't know exactly what but it was over 15yrs ago.

How much longer in your cycle? I don't think they will operate tomorrow or nothing. If it's just small you maybe able to get away with lifting. Ask your doctor about lifting with it before the operation. Wether you can discuss juicing with him is really your choice. Good luck.

A friend of mind who is an MD just got an umbilical hernia
fixed. He had it done on friday afternoon and was in
the gym on monday morning for a light workout. He got
the ok to do unrestricted lifting in three weeks. Get
the screen put in and you will heal stronger than ever.
The other type of repair is no where as good. You
need to get that taken care of asap . People have
pinched their intestines in hernias and have gotten
gangarene .

if it don't hurt......why fix it?

how long have you had it? if it were me, i'd finish my cycle staying away from known hernia agitators like the deadlift and work out long enough after to ensure that i keep my gains, then get the operation.

one more thing. if your doc didn't say that you have to "have it taken care of ASAP," THEN YOU PROBABLY DON'T NEED TO.

just be mindful of it, don't do things that aggravate it, if it starts hurting.. fix it.

I am having 2 hernia's repaired next Friday.... I know I have to stop my cycle, but will there be any complications with the surgery because of the juice, anything I should tell the surgeon or anestigiologist??

ItalMonster, I had surgery last year while I was on a cycle. When the doc asked me if I was using gear I lied and told him no. They asked me again before they put me to sleep and I told them no again. I know it was stupid to lie but the sugery went fine with no complications. If I ever have to have surgery again while I'm in the middle of a cycle I'll be honest with the doc.

Hey Lift Or Die, What kind of surgery did you have and how long before you were able to work-out again?

It is not necessary to fix an inguinal hernia immediately although it should be fixed as soon as is convenient for you. It would be ok to finish your cycle first. You just need to keep an eye on it and when ever it bulges you need to push it back in right away. We recommend that all hernias get fixed. Reason being, they can incarcerate (get stuck) and then strangulate (cut off the blood supply of what ever is stuck, usually small bowel or colon) as long as you push it back in right away you should be ok. If it does get stuck out, you need to go to the ER right away b/c that is a surgical emergency.

I would recommend getting it fixed laparoscopically with mesh. This method has the fastest recovery and the least post op pain. You would be able to resume full lifting in 2 weeks. (this is b/c recent animal studies have shown that the repair using mesh reaches maximum strength in two weeks when done laparoscopically)

Many general surgeons prefer the open technique of repair over laparoscopic repair, this is b/c it is more difficult to perform laparoscopically. Just find a general surgeon who is comfortable with laparoscopic repair.

Good luck
