gonelifting said:Yep^^^ The HDMI has audio included in there. It's nice to have an AV receiver to control weverything as well.
I visit that site deltree, are you a member? I agree, a lot of good info. I'm a newbie compared to those fanatics. Crazy mofos there, almost like us with weights... or donuts.
gonelifting said:No, I won't be getting an HD DVD player. lol
gonelifting said:Plasmas are not neccessarily the best PQ out there. There are different factors involved in choosing a display. Some people need a brighter screen because of too much light in the room, some people need a non glare screen, some need it thin while others can afford the thickness of a dep TV (like me) and still get a superb picture.
You really have to look at the environment in which you watch the Tv and assess it that way instead of "Which TV is best?" kind of thing. You can't go wrong with any of the new technologies these days and if you get a "great deal" then go for it, but the above still holds true because there are faults with all TV types... even Plasmas.
The Sony Qualia is the best TV out there now IMO. It's 70 inch and was msrp for about 10k Not bad considering the size and it blows away other TVs. 1080p HD YES that's a P! I think they raised the msrp after it got rave reviews, but I'm sure in no time it'll come down to 6-8k.
And like Deltree says you should get a HD feed, like an antenna (for free HD, locals) and/or satellite or cable with HD programming. You need to ask them specifically for HD programming to get it.
Hate to do this but I have to ask... How do you have the TV connected? From best to worst is
HDMI cable
DVi cable
Component cable
S-video cable
and last AND least composite cable (red/white/yellow)
Please connect with at least ABOVE THE S-Video cables if you can with the DVD player AND with the cable box or sat box. If you can go all HDMI, that's the best bet. If you go with HDMI, then DVi... that's great too Use all the top cables you can and go down the list with the connections available at your TV... and boxes/equipment.
Enjoy... and PLEASE inform me of these freaking threads. I'm getting old and can't keep up any kmore with this stuff. I almost missed this one! Damn you people!

I just went on a trip with a girl who - whenever she bought a bag - had to buy a matching one for her mom. She had all the Hermes shit too.
WOmen and their bags are crazy.

Also, Spongebob's wall is pretty cool. I have an LCD on my wall and wish I'd have thought of that before I bought it. I did'nt just finish renovating though. Even with the LCD on the wall, it's still too far out IMO. I can still move it in slightly, if I have time that might be a good project for me to do.
It's a small 22inch display. I had a thread here on how the before and after went with pics... good thread, I can't find it though. lol There were cables everywhere and now they're all in the wall hidden.
jrc04444 said:id mount it in the hole you have them put up some moulding round it to look like a picture frame...
gonelifting said:Yeah, that's what I would do.
Where are you putting the cables? Are they in the wall already or will they be in front of the wall when finished? Can you snake them through the wall to have them hidden? Big difference if you can.
jrc0444, I'm sure you have enough connections on your TV to do what you need. The only limiting factor would probably be your other pieces of equipment. Use the highest to lowest with the equipment you'll use most and what THEIR highest connection is and go from there.
I'd also suggest a calibration DVD for the TV. It takes you step by step through the process of brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc... to really get the PQ the best possible (without a professional) These disks are $25-$40 depending on which you get. I would look at Avia for Home theater calibration DVD or Home theater Essentials. I think Avia is cheaper, I have that one. It's pretty good and also does your surround sound if you want in the same disk.
For the real enthusiasts, a professional ISF calibration is recommended. They're pricey, but if you have a huge screen or projector in a dedicated home theater or whatever... it's definately worth it. I pad $400 for my ISF calibration. It really does "fix" all the imperfections that the TV usually has when shipped from the factory that the homeowner will never be able to determine. Their test and calibration equipment is many thousands of dollars each. They spent 6 hours at my house calibrating my set. Not bad. It's not for everyone... we all got our hobbies....
jrc04444 said:Hence my dilemma...i will be moving into a new home in about 6-7 mos...do I take the time and money to calibrate and hook everything up to perfection...or B- hook up as best i can for now then when i move do it right....will this do anyharm to the set? i mean for now i have the regular coax cable hooked up till my HD box arrives and the pic looks ok...not great but better than regular...dvd looks flawless with the HD cables....and will hook up surround this weekend....
gonelifting said:I'd wait till you moved. BUT.... only for getting cables that would require certain lengths. You would'nt want to buy a 6 foot cable now and find out you need a 12 foot cable when in the new place. Other than that, the connections would be the same.
DVDs will look great but HD is SO MUCH BETTER than DVD PQ. So, if you like the DVD, the HD will certainly satisfy you. The connections will not hurt the TV, but I would briefly look at the picture settings on the set and lower the contrast and brightness to about 50%. They're usually on VERY HIGH glaring settings from the factory because the showrooms are usually brightly lit and they don't want to risk a "dim" looking picture for prospective shoppers viewing them.
Also, the calibration DVD's can be used over and over. If you get one now, it would help and can be used later after the move. Again... roughly $30 for the DVD and it helps a ton.
Of course all this is anal type stuff. You'll be happy with your set any way you watch it, but you have (and a lot of other people have) a potentially great looking PQ set, you may as well take advantage of it's potential with these little things you can do to it. It's like having a sports car that's not tuned up and with bad tires etc...= calibration and cables. good luck.
