jump soles

I was in my garage the other day, and found my jumpsoles..been playing a lot of ball lately, and id like to try and up my vert for the summer season...what do you guys think of them, coupled with a good plyo program and heavy squats???

i have had a few friends who have used jump soles, none of them were very succesful. I would say drop the jump soles and just do heavy squats and pylos. Some OL lifting is good too and maybe some jump squats.

i already said i was doing heavy squats and plyos...the jumpsoles are used during the plyo program, to say to drop them...whats your reasoning? just because your friends didnt have good results??

reasons? - to blow your achilles tendon that's why :)

You can't jump very quickly in jumpsoles, so that makes plyos in them pretty useless. The idea is supposed to overload the calves.

But hey jump and land on the balls of your foot, keeping heels off the ground and you get the same effect for free :D

calves are barely 10% of a jump as well anyway.

They are good for walkinga round it to make your calves bigger, and for that they work well .

i dont know the actual percentage, but your idea is right. for vert you need to work on quads, hams, and glutes

abs are very very important too!

sorry this is a bit late but i've been gone a while. ditch the jump soles. squats, gh raises, olympic lifts and depth jumps are the way to go.

in high school i used jump soles to train for football and my 40 yeard dash got quicker by like .2 or .3 seconds i can't remember. I think they were pretty useful. But i have no idea about vertical jump.

it was more likely the ply program you were using in conjunction with the shoes

I've heard calves are around 30%, but I'm not sure about that figure either. Anyone have any links with info?

supertraining had an article on this a while back. Basically as a starter it said try jumping with just your calves and see how high you get.

I did the full jumpsoles program 2 years ago. I gave it my all and got little improvement. I think like ccj the jumpsoles themselves might not even help or may make things worse. In most cases for bball players driving up the squat will have a much greater effect. (if you squat over double bodyweight, then just focus on developing speed strength while maintaining your maximal strength)
