jump rope and calories burned

Fifteen minutes of jumping rope burns about 200 calories, with some variation depending on how fast you go and how much you weigh. And despite concerns that jumping rope is hard on the joints, it's easier on the knees and hips than running, since you land on the balls of your feet so the calves and shins absorb and control the impact.

This is interesting:

I got through about the first paragraph and stopped reading. "It tones the muscles of the upper body (especially the deltoids and to a lesser degree the chest and upper back) as well as the lower body (especially the calves and the hamstrings)."

Toned?

It isn't intense enough to compare running at a moderate pace. I've done a lot of rope jumping and it doesn't come close. It's pretty easy.

Even if the article is correct, running at 5.7 on a treadmill is almost walking. Try it yourself.

Relax, I was referring more to how many calories it burned.

Skipping is a great workout, I've been skipping for the past 2 years now and I can tell you that the results from skipping are great! My leg muscles are stronger than ever, my abs have been toned a lot more as you can see in my picture, ok I run and do weights etc.. But I'm quite comfortable to recommend skipping to anyone if you want to improve Stamina, muscles and don't like running.

Personally I love skipping..

I just added jump rope to my cardio routine to change it up some. I must say that for me the cals burned jumping rope for 30mins (508cals) are close to what I burn on an elliptical (525cals), although I am just starting out with no previous jumping experience.

Stair machines and running are clearly inferior to the jump rope. The jump rope is the best single exercise in the world you get more muscular and leaner in the entire body
