I suppose we are to think Kerry and Edwards will "solve" this "problem"?

And apparently, big Brother is the solution? You "ABB" people better be careful what you wish for, unless you;re just envious people who want to use the power of government to steal from people more successful than you.

Ironically, that is how Edwards made his money.

This is typical party nonsense, there have been two classes of people since the beginning of time and that's not going to change. It also feeds into the "victim" mentality which is typical of your average American. It's not their fault they are struggling, they're a victim of big corporations and "the wealthy" not their own bad choices in life. I have been to Bombay, India. As far as poverty goes that is pretty bad.

What makes the US so unique is it's enormous contrast. The world's most massive wealth as well as an enormous chasm between rich and poor. Brazil, Haiti and most African contries may have more poverty, but they don't have the wealth of the USA to contrast that.
