Not only that -- but the kids they pop out (and we pay for) WILL compete for our jobs (they're citizens), and support their illegal parents who've retired after 30 years of cleaning toilets, and now have absolutely zero retirement and health funds.

Use your brains.......... those figures are in MILLIONS.

The survey says that AMERICANS are already doing those jobs, and gives the percentages of native born Americans in each field. E.g. 61% of all jobs in Farming, fishing and forestry are held by native born Americans.

you should both use your brains, surveys are designed with random samples which represent the entire population to a certain level of statistical significance. it was probably a survey of a few thousand people extrapolated to the entire population with ~95% confidence interval or so.

btw 137,000 (in thousands) means 137,000,000 jd

I'd personally pick fruit, but I'm going to need around $275-$300 per hour. I guess everyone has their price. You guys wouldn't mind a $50 apple would you?

NO ONE cleans toilets or picks fruit at $2.25/hr. NO ONE. You are being disingenious. Thoise arguements are red herrings. Day laborers earn like $10.00/hr.

BUT, Would I pay a higher price for my fruits and vegtables if I knew the labor was legal and well paid? YOU BET I WOULD. I'm also one of those types of guys that pays more at small shops to show support for the business owner, even though I could get the same thing from Walmart for 30% less. America is not just an economic zone for exploitation. America is still a nation.

BTW, I used to work in the onion fields in the summer months of High School. The job paid 50cents more per hour than any other job I could get because the work was hard, tiring, dirty....( crawled on hands and knees, 8 hours a day with a burlap sack over my shoulder pulling tiny weeds that would suck the nutrients from the onions).

Some in construction and landscaping in more affluent areas will ean $20 /hr.

My housekeeper comes on Mondays and Thursdays. She makes $120 for between 7 and 8 hours work. She's Ukranian, and speaks about 5 words of English. Her husband helps vaccum near the end of the day, and he speaks about 10 words of English.

She's over here as a result of her daughter, who married a US citizen (physician) and they have since gotten a divorce.

I keep up with her tax information because I can't afford to deal with a Nanny-gate situation.

im telling you this whole arguement about illegals not making any money is a crock of shit. then add in free health care, no local taxation or federal taxes. theyre not hurting.

No, the market rate in this area for a full-day housekeeper is between $150 and $175. Problem is, the US citizen version only showed-up about half the time, left hours early, stole shit (I think), and was on drugs about half the time when she did show up.

If the market rate was $2.25 an hour would I pay it? Yup! I sure would. And don't say that's mean-spirited. When's the last time you went back to the grocery store, a car dealership, or your local department store and said "hey, I know I bought this from you for $X but I wanted you to have a little extra cash -- here's another $100".

And yes, there are people being exploited for $2.25 or less per hour in the US.

In the mountains of southwest Virginia, a fair number of illegals have gathered to do farm work. They routinely pick tobacco, bail hay and build pallets (another industry up there) for $2.25 an hour. I didn't pick that number out of the air.

Granted its in the hills of the appalachians and you have to pipe sunlight into there just to see, but it is US soil and yes, they are making $2.25 per hour. I have family from there (grandparents) and it's hard to even drive around and think you are still traveling inside the US.

Minimum wage here is around $7/hour so thats what you get paid for picking up fruits.... if you're lucky. Most of the time, they get paid 3-4/hour and they aren't illegals.

It is amazing to me that there are people that actually believe that NO ONE takes advantage of workers in the United States.

The gym that I used to work for would regularly STEAL time from ALL of their employees. The time clock was always wrong and records were kept, blah, blah, blah... but still nothing ever happened because no one ever really filed a formal complaint.

In the PT (personal training) department our checks were so freaking complicated that you had to practically be a CPA to figure out whether or not you were being properly paid. If you were shorted time then it was like an act of God getting compensated. After a while everyone would just give up.

Just an example of one of the most flagrant abuses: my old manager was cheated out of nearly 10K in hours. Yes, she went to a lawyer and yes she had irrefutable proof in the form of meticulous records and email exchanges. Still it is extremely hard to prove.. What happened? NADA

Imagine a chain of gyms shorting nearly all employees just 20 minutes of company time say 3 days per week. I am no great math whiz so you tell me how much the employees are taken advantage of.
 
I dont see too many American day laborers at Home Depot. I dont see too many Americans picking fruits and veggies in the scorching sun along Hwy I-5 between northern Cali and southern Cali. Why not? (Not taking sides).

The chart says "Percent Native Born" or "Percent Foreign Born" Its say nothing about being legal or being illegal.... I'm sure some of the better jobs are being take by "Foreign Born" legal aliens... That group would include DJ_UFO and Razorgunz's Canadian ass....

I'm not sure those statistics have anything to do with illegal immigration sicne it doesn't point out if the "Foreign Born" individuals are legal or illegal...

She could have asked for your adjustment of status since the day you were born, up until the day you married... Why would she wait to let you navigate he legal loops and go thru the expense of becoming an A1 visa holder??? She could have set you up from the start. She had at least 18 years to do it!
