I haven't posted here for a long time and glad to see my account isn't deactivated. Just getting ready to move house. Got told by the estate agent that a "Gas Engineer" was calling out. It sounded like a really important person. It wasn't, instead it was some guy who's job was to read the meter!!!!

Anyone else got a great job title!

engineers come up with solutions even when the math and physics do not exist for that problem

now why someone who cleans septic tanks, reads gas meters etc gets to have such a title is beyond me.

Personally I'd call them "shit cleaner" and "my company is too cheap to automate my job and collect data on computers".

Gas meters actually have a complex nature to them - first you deal with the input parameters and how they are effected by the guage and other related measurement devices. Then you get guage and resolution errors - pretty soon you are reading things within an acceptable range (well hopefully).
