OK Folks - I need to desperately get back on track. I feel horrible & look worse. I am SEVERELY bloated still and it's painful.

My eating plan will be about: 150g protein/125-150g carb/35g fat daily.

Weights will be on a 4 day split of 1 week of Power Core Lifting & the next week is Volume High Intensity Lifting then back to Power Core.

I'm going to keep cardio in for right now to try & drop some of this weight.

**OMG!! My weight is soooo bad!! I'm hoping a lot of it is retained water cuz I look extremely puffy. God this is embarrassing!

Last time you saw in person I was under 150. Not I'm sitting pretty at 170 (I think LOL :verygood: )

It is WATER, IT WILL go down with a clean diet (of even just a week).

Remember it will always appear worse than it really is to you, no matter how tight, bloated, and sick you feel.

I'm so glad you started another log :D

I'm hoping doing so will keep me "accountable." My short term goal is to eat cleanly until Friday nite which is my hubby's B-day & we're going out to eat.

I now know how the guy who did the movie Super Size Me felt.... :worried:
 
sweetie dont worry!!! this is normal after competition... IT SUCKS!!! I know but that its impossible to retain comp shape... think about all the water depleting etc that you did.. I know your brain understands that but no one wants to let there heart believe it.. dont worry most of its just water... and you LOOK BEAUTIFUL!!! dont let a number on the scale dictate your happiness!!!
 
Holy crap yeah Jen I would say a lot of it is water as much as 10-15 lbs could be depending on what you ate post comp how much sodium etc was in it.

I'm also trying to "redo" my mental state again - goes back to how I was brought up - that I DON'T have to eat it just cuz it's there & I DON'T have to eat it all at once.

Just remember keeping that competition leanness is not doable year round.

No - I know I could NOT maintain that - for my sanity & everyone around me!! LOL But I don't like the Stay-Puf Marshmallow Man look -- It's not a good look for me. ;)

But - yes competing does do a wonder with your brain doesn't it?? Whew!

I was proud of myself last nite - kept the ANPB to 1 tblsp!! Kept telling myself - the jar will still be there tomorrow. Don't have to eat the whole jar tonite........ :verygood:

I have a friend who is a trainer that had a 5 k run this last weekend. Anyways...he got home from partying at 3 am and did the race at 7am. WTF? lol Thats whack! :rolleyes:

Remember after a comp your body will go into what they call a survival mode. It will hold lots of excess water because you were straving (so to speak) your body of the water it was used to prior to the comp. You will soon regulate back to normal and be back on top again! DO NOT get depressed your diet plan rocks and you definately know what you are doing! We are all here for you!
 
Baby, I KNOW what water retention is NOW ..... only 3 more months of ME being a bloated fool, lol :) Even my feet are getting fat!

Seriously, I am glad to see you logging, I think it will help you get back on track. Not to mention, setting some other goals (the 5Ks). Hope you meet your goals of adding muscle! Keep it up!

Jens, I can't imagine what it would be like to come off the back of a competition diet, but did you find it difficult in the beginning? I had read that you started out around 170lbs - was it easy for you to accomplish the initial loss?

I'm asking because I'm 7 weeks in to my program and I have found it VERY hard the past week or so. I can't stop thinking about bad food :worried:

I was 170lbs in 1996 - that's when I began my fitness journey.....

I was 140lbs in June when I started my competition diet. And it's been EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!! I'm still struggling to get back on track - I've been obsessed with food. So I went from not caring about what/when I ate to literally losing control over what I ate, etc.
 
yeah Jens..... it's weird. I never competed, but I was able to not eat ONE sweet for a year and a half at one point! I felt good about myself and found i didn't even want it. Then i went away to Australia for 3 months, and when i got back its been a constant battle ever since =( I now understand the word "yo-yo" dieting! BUT on a positive note..... i will never give up =) Even this weekend ( i still was BAD) but i found it getting a little easier. Maybe it will keep going that way? I hope =) Im just so proud of you for losing 30! then competing! I don't have the discipline to compete! ( i tried =) lol!)

One weekend I think I ate enough to feed a whole family for a week or maybe a month.

Just keep trying to get it straight, and don't beat yourself up over it. It will come back to you.

Ask him to hide it from you - at least until you get a grasp on the diet again. He would be a big help to you if he would.

I've decided not to keep a log for a while as it was kind of stressing me out - which I think led to a lot of the over-indulging in junk food/sweets.

Plus once I'm up in VT - I'm not going to write down my food on the slopes!!

Its just a phase you go through when you've been dieting alot. Especially when you've completed your goals and then what? You want a break from the discipline, want to just eat whatever w/o a comment or feeling like it screwed up something.

I think I finally hit "bottom" 2 days ago - I have absolutely no interest in eating crap anymore so I think I'm out of that phase. If this is true, I should be fine on about 97% strict dieting just out of habit. But I know that I just needed to go thru that phase to deal w/ what's going on in my life & where I just came from. I've been comp dieting since last December. Now I'm not real sure where I'm heading with this as I don't think the GA comp schedules have been posted for next year. That leaves me "goal-less", so I sort of have to sit down & just come up w/ some sort of "maintenance" training - and not really like muscle maintenance but more just "this is how I train as a normal person instead of a competitor". That's been particularly hard for me.

Besides, you've got a diff kind of exercise coming up. If anything I'd just make sure that you work on your quad strength & leg /lower back strength & flexibility for skiing! Reduce potential soreness from using muscles in a new way & quicker recovery. :)

I'm trying to get out of the "feeling guilty cuz I'm not busting my ass doing morning cardio" mental state. Once I start skiing a lot - I won't need it anyway. And nothing gets you more into skiing shape than skiing itself.

I keep realizing - WOW! I can have X!! I've been struggling with meal ideas as I've gotten "used to" not being able to have X, Y, Z like seasonings, etc.....LOL

I was also set up with a very nice, different & challenging workout plan which I AM LOVING!! Hubby's bitching - so I know it's good!! :verygood:

I've got my comp schedule for next year already: June 17, July 15, August (end), Sept (end) & October 1st?)!! Yikes!!
 
Hey lady! I haven't said hi in a bit. I have been keeping up with your log though. I just kinda went through that same phase as you. My food is now better and like Sassy I'm out of the cravings and eating whatever. It just takes time, and you'll come around. I start getting antsy when I start eating like that and then I end up eating more. So just relax and don't think it's the end of the world. You'll snap out of it!

This really HIT home, Jens...exactly what I'm feeling. I nowhere went through anything you did with comp dieting, but just decided to move into maintenance mode after 4 months of cutting, but still struggle with guilt and similar issues that you're dealing with. So I totally understand, girl!!

I still am relieved instead of being annoyed when anyone cancels plans involving food or drinks. I know that's not healthy!

I want to do a comp diet "but" without the diet. lol Workouts are the easy part to me. Its hard when you are always with someone who wants to party and eat what ever. That is everyone around me. Urgh! Jen, when you are ready to start your comp diet....would you like a partner? I was thinking this a.m.....hmmm...maybe I need to partner up with someone with a similiar goal. Why? Because no one that I know workouts and eats the way I do for the exception of my trainer but she is 47 now and done with competitons. I dont want to compete but it is a true inspirational goal that I have to reach. I eat clean now but I was thinking on Jan 1st I want to plan a 3 month comp style very strict shit to be ready for Spring.
Jen, at least you have already done 2 shows. And you know that you are totally able to do it when you put your mind into it. You rock!

It's been a real struggle getting back into "normal" mode......I'm trying to be more relaxed about my diet......can't wait till ski season kicks in - with skiing for hours on end - I'll have built in cardio!!!

My hubby at work is a coach of a Jeapordy type contest & his team won tonite which means they go onto a larger competition at the end of Nov. which I may go to - so I need to look good!! LOL

I was doing so good and then last Friday it was my bday so a lot of my friends and I hung out for 4 days and partied like crazy all of those days with hardly any sleep. Since last Friday I havent ate right or worked out. Besides a little run I just did. I feel like a cow now and Im like....okay I am going home to make a short term goal. I wish we could just be fit by pushing a button. Damn!

Like Sassy said, you just dieted so hard, of course you are craving junk. Remember you have been dieting since Jan (just harder for comp).

You are still working out. I'm sure you want to gain some muscle before next comp, so I don't think you should be stressing over the cardio.

It's time to relax & ski. You are in off season! The cravings will come to an end! Don't stress :)

As for the cardio - I wanted to run in a 5k tomorrow, but my left knee has been hurting today - so I'm going to skip it & just do the one I really want to do on 11/11 ---> THAT after-party is killer!! That will be my next cheat meal.

That was me....I have it all the time.
At first it taste whack but you develope a taste for it.
I make it with cinnamon,flax meal, and either strawberries or blueberries. Yummy!
Also..I use it as a sour cream replacement. I put 2 tbs of thr greek yogurt on a whole wheat pita, 3 oz of ground turkey with salsa mixed in, and add a slice of Trader Joes Jalepeno Yogurt cheese on top. Yummy!!! U gotta try it!

Well I'm SO glad I remembered!! OMG!! It was so goooooood!! I added 1 packet of Splenda for a sweeter taste cuz I wanted more of a dessert.

How is broccoli rabe different from broccoli? I'm not keen on regular broc but would love an alternative.

It's more like a "green" than it is a broccoli.......do you know what collard greens are?? Or other "leafy greens" (not spinach)?? It's got large stems (like big thich spinach stems) with leaves & small, teeny-tiny broccoli heads.

If you can find it, make sure you boil it first for 5 minutes, then saute with garlic & oil......it can be bitter, which is why you want to boil it first.....

LOL, I remember collard greens from my South Carolina days and I have to admit I didn't like them much! I'll look out for the rabe though, I'd like to try it. I'm not a "green" fan although spinach is OK.
 
Jens, just wanted to say thanks for pointing me toward the Quaker brown rice cakes from a while ago. I found them today and like them a lot more than the Trader Joes ones I've been eating. The huge added bonus is they're only half the calories (35 cals as opposed to 70 cals) and also 7g carbs and not 17g carbs. I'm sure not having any added salt also helps. So these will be permanently replacing my Trader Joes staple from now on....
