It would be nice. What do they usually do for people's last day at your place of employment?

nothing.
its a very small office- we get part time workers all the time who just leave and there have been a few fulltime employees who left on bad terms over the years, so nothing for them either. and one woman that left suddenly on maternity leave, thats it.

the secretary and i were joking because she asked if he was going to take me out to lunch and I made a face like she must be nuts... i've NEVER gone to lunch with him in my life- its not going to start now.
she said maybe he'd give me $10 to go get something?

then we laughed again... he's too cheap for that.

lol ok so nothing. I hope you packed a brown bag. PB&J? good choice. and some doritos. damn....that resembles my lunches back in high school

then i could leave my orange fingerprints on everything.

No way in hell you are getting those crackers by the microwave. You will have to just try to wring some ketchup out of the empty wrappers in the trash. lol.

What is it with people always wanting the boss to invite them out and buy them lunch?

When they say it to me I point out its because no one pays me to spend time with them outside the workplace. If they did I would, but the compensation would have to be very high.

It's a tradition in the Engineering community to go have lunch somewhere with the ex-employee to be. Even if the engineer was going to a competitor. Always had to keep the latter case on the down low or they would be terminated on the spot instead of serving out thier notice.

at my place of work normally the bosses dont go out on an employees last day, but the team will take em out and pay for the lunch. since the enron bullshit its hard to get anything on the corporate card unless you're traveling

well ok- we just had "the talk"
I'll be getting some severance pay, but it will require me working on a few projects from home (the kind of projects I enjoy doing- and it will be working with someone I enjoy working with).

He gave me a card, which was very nice, and admitted that he knows he's extremely difficult to work with/for.

no lunch, but the 2 months pay to stay home and do a little work there made up for it.

2 months severance? Damn, you're good.

and known my boss since I was 6.

Even so, you're quitting, he's not letting you go. Severance is not in order. I would expect a severance equal to 1 week per year of service if I was being canned.

its not that simple as i'm just quitting.

hold on, pm coming.

now see, if you would have worn shorter skirts and shown more cleavage... especially your cleavage, he would have taken you out for a hotdog or something

Whiskey

Want me to decapitate him?

33 years!?!? Holy crap! I haven't even been alive for 33 years let alone known my boss for that long. Wait... I am the boss

lol, i'm 39.

he turned out to be not too bad- had flowers sent to me, gave me a card, and worked out a deal for me to work this summer a few hours a week but earn full pay. :)
i think his wife had a talk with him, cause she was going to have to do my job when i left.
