A Las Vegas businessman says he has captured the elusive and extremely dangerous Bat Boy and is holding the frightening creature in his garage.
"I found Bat Boy asleep floating on a plastic raft in my pool," said Eric Riccardi, manager of a direct mailing company in Las Vegas.
"With the help of my roommate Don McCowan, I scooped him out of the water with my pool net and locked him in my garage."
Zoologist Ron Dillon had issued a nationwide alert through Weekly World News last October when the vicious 2-foot, 19-pound monster escaped from a research center in Wheeling, W. Va.
Dr. Dillon and his research team had found and subdued Bat Boy with a tranquilizer while studying subterranean life-forms in a cave in the Shenandoah Mountains.
Despite his size, the half-human, half-bat boy has razor-sharp teeth and the strength of an ape. "His amber eyes are large, enabling him to see in the dark. His oversize ears work like radar," Dr. Dillon explained.
"He is quick, powerful and as vicious as a lion. I hope and pray we are able to recapture him before anyone gets hurt."
Riccardi, 28, thought the Bat Boy story was a hoax until he discovered him in the pool.
"I was going to call the police, but I didn't think they would believe me," Riccardi said. "I figured Bat Boy would be comfortable in the garage because there are no windows."
"He was very lethargic at first, but started screeching from dusk to dawn. It was a chilling, scary screech. - like a bat, multiplied about 100 times. I slip food under the garage door to him once a day. He eats mostly table scraps and bugs, but he's starting to like the same food my roommate and I eat. He is especially fond of Spam and applesauce."
Riccardi believes the Bat Boy "is as much afraid of us as we are of him" and "is terrified when my dog barks - and I'm glad he is!"
"I used my neighbors lawnmower last week because mine is in the garage. I am NOT about to go in there and get it," Riccardi said.
Dr. Dillon said he will fly to Las Vegas within the week to take Bat Boy off Riccardis hands.
"We underestimated the creature last time. We are going to take extra measures to make sure he doesn't escape again," Dr Dillon said.
