Well....

There is NO REASON why anyone should be without health care in this country or in this state. I mean, its not like we don't have the money, and our state government already picks up the tab on ER visits by the homeless, John or Jane Does, or the very, very poor....
I was going to stay out of this, but here goes.
I agree that we do have the means to ensure all people have access to health care, but of what quality? Oregon came up with a plan that ensured EVERYONE got care, but they had to limit what was covered and not covered so the money would make something that works without creating a crushing tax burden.
I do blame the following for the outrageous costs of medical care....Doctors, Hospitals, Insurance Companies, and Lawyers.
Doctors....For expecting outrageous incomes for a job that is mostly intended to benefit their fellow man. Only the rare specialist should expect much more than their contemporaries.
Hospitals....For being "for profit" institutions. Caring for the sick and injured shouldn't be about pleasing shareholders.
Insurance Companies....For being "for profit" institutions. Their outrageous costs for malpractice insurance only forces Doctors & Hospitals to raise their prices.
Lawyers....For being greedy and encouraging litigation over matters that were honest mistakes and done in a realm where nothing is an exact science and nothing is guaranteed.
Greed has brought us to a point that you CAN'T AFFORD health care without insurance.
Now, as to any proposal for socialized medicine....
YOU DO NOT HAVE A "RIGHT" TO HEALTH CARE!
Look at history. Until the last 50 years, many people only got medical attention if they could afford it. Rich were taken care off. Poor often died younger or lived with disabilities because of poor health care. Doctors serving the poor often did so without compensation. It was a humanitarian matter for them.
Then, health insurance comes into being. It's a wonderful thing, but natural mistakes become malpractice. Which produces lawsuits, which requires malpractice insurance, which raises costs, which raises cost of health insurance, which denys access, which only encourages people to sue a doctor over minor mistakes since for as much as doctors and hospitals charge, you expect them to do everything to perfection. Get the point?
Life is not fair. Get over it.
Socialized medicine takes away the incentive to provide quality care. Doctors and hospitals don't innovate. If you tax everyone who works to support health care costs, you can be damn sure everyone will go to the ER with the sniffles because THIER TAXES paid for it.
I hate paying social security taxes because I won't see a dime of it when I get to retirement (even though my dad gets it now). Money Uncle Sam steals from me to keep old people going could be put into a 401K for myself, but I can't do that. I have to hope on the blatant lie that the system will be there for me.
I hate paying medicare taxes for the same reason. I'm poor, I have no health insurance, but I'm not poor enough to get government help for health care. Why should some slob get something I'm paying for in large part?
So, socialized medicine will make someone like me go to the hospital and demand treatment since I'M PAYING FOR IT.
This will overload the system and bring it crashing down in no time....especially with the number of freeloading "can't-take-responsibility-for-themselves" masses in California.
