It Went Bye-Bye

I have a question, it's not really on the subject of fitness, well it kind of is!

I just found out that I am pregnant. I have been going to the gym religiously for just a little under a year. My bodyfat is at 19%

How does one give all that up for 9 months? Can you still lift weights, run, snow ski, can I still stay on a eat low carb/high protien diet?

I just got to the point where I am looking pretty good!

To top it all off I am not married, but have been living with the b-friend for two years?

How do you know when you are ready to have children???

I don't know to what to do????

I don't have children, so I can't be of much help, but I'm sure you will get plenty of replies.

Regarding being "ready", I remember my Mom saying, "If you wait till you're 'ready' to have children, you'll never have children." :D
Best of luck!

It would be some time in September; I'm only 4 weeks along! I got pregnant on New Years Eve (go figure)

I'm just really scared!

Exercise wise, you can still do pretty much what you've been doing if you're in shape. Forget about 19% bodyfat for a while, but you'll see it again after it's all over.

I've trained women to 8 1/2 months. Still did the 50 rep set on leg presses with 360.

No do not stay on a low-carb diet...you are no longer trying to lose bodyfat..you are eating for nutrition of that baby!!! That doesn't mean go out and everything in sight...keep your diet clean but take in plenty of good complex carbs...you can still workout when you are going to have a baby...take is easy and just don't over do it. How do you know when you are ready? Well that is something you are supposed to decide before you get pregnant...but if that is not the case you will have to become ready....it will change your life and probably for the better. It is scary but it is wonderful as well. Read some books and get yourself to a goo doctor to start getting ready for the baby. Does your boyfriend know? Were you guys using protection of any sort?

You can still train moderately, but eat a healthy diet and don't use diet supplements. In my old gym their was a woman who trained up to her delivery. She was amazing, almost scary. On leg day she would even squat! I shit when I seen this and thought that kid was going to drop right there. My wife didn't start training untill after our daughter was born but if she was in the shape she is now and became pregnant (not likely since the tubes are tied) I would let her train but much lighter. BTW, congratulations you have created a new life and not everybody can do that!

I didnt lift weights with each pregnancy....but I walked every day religiously. Its so good to get everything circulating and to get your ass moving :)

And get off that diet like New@ said.....you are growing a baby.....CONGRATULATIONS !!!

I would of loved to of seen Spatts running at 7 mo......my god she is a superwoman :D

Gotta color those hair locks black for Spatts Nub :) And stuff a cotton ball in her shirt....and then we would have the mental picture.

congrats on the new baby!!! :D
Another question for you guys/gals...if u can't do squats and such, what exercises would you suggest for the lower body???

when I got pregnant, I stopped working out and ate everything I saw, I loved it! I got freaking massive went from like 125 to 170, it was awesome, of course We had a 9lb 4oz baby, very healthy :) But I didn't worry about anything but protecting who was inside of me, It was great, but that is just what I did, the weight came off real fast when I got back to the gym. :)

I was really scared too, I had been with my boyfriend for alsmost 2 years, and there was never any talk of marriage! We debated forever, and decided to have her. I did light weights, but no squats(I had a thinning cervix) Then my water got a small tear at 6 months, and I was on complete bedrest for over a month. After that I was really careful,I did little exercice for the baby sake. I actaully had her a couple days early,I weighed118 lbs. at delivery and gave birth to a 8lb girl. I had always been tiny, and hated giving up my body, working out, etc., but as soon as I held her I knew it was all worth it. That was just my experience.:)

Thank you all so much.

I am scared of becoming a parent, delivery and getting feakin HUGE and not being able to lose it!!!!!

Also this was not planned at all and I used birth control, but as we all know it is not 100%

And yes my boy-friend does know, he's excited. The really sad part about this, is I have been crying over stupid things,

I couldn't find a matching sock...

The network went down at work and I was wondering around balling!!!!!

Is there a pill out there that stablelizes the emotions??? Guess not....

Re: Body being the same afterwards....

The majority of the aerobics instructors at my club have had at least one child, & most are in their 30's & 40's & their bods are AWESOME! 2 have done BB competitions.

Oh... VooDoo Lady has a son too - check out her pics from a few days ago :)

working put while pregnant

My best friend, 34, just had her 3rd child, 3 weeks ago..her 3rd C-Section. Today she did 1hr 30min cardio. With every pregnancy she lifted light and did cardio religiously up untile the day the child was born..and then does a bit more beyond that..do whatever you do before you were pregnant. She rocks!

This IS a really good thread...

Spatterson, you even make me want to have a baby now!
(Wellllll, in ten years or so...)

But it is inspiring to hear from fit, healthy women who chooses to have children and are able to stay fit and healthy.

And the pregnancy and the bf will only last for so long, while the happiness you get from your children while last your whole life. (Hopefully..)

That's kind of funny since I've decided to never EVER do it again.

How can you have a farm with only one calf?

MOO!;)

Congratulations on the baby.:)

You have been blessed with bringing a child into this world.
I wish you and your new family all the best.

My step circuit aerobics instructor is pregnant and due in two weeks. She is still doing the classes and bouncing around like crazy.

Congradulations

Great thread.
Great advice from all.

Spatts, you are the poster child for exercise in pregnancy...
the more the better. Studies clearly show
better shape/more exercise=faster labor, less pain meds.

Just this month AGOG (American College of Ob/Gyn) revised their recommendations for exercise in pregnancy from "no more than 140 BPM" to something more along the lines of "we really don't know, just don't overdo it"

Generally, the advice to not do exercises that cause you to "bear down" (valsalva) in the third trimester (28+ weeks) and avoidance of high-impact exercises is pretty much sound and reasonable. Try to drink at least a gallon of water daily and, most of all...

Good luck!!!
:fro:

Good luck and get ready for a bumpy ride! (the next 21 years that is!...tee-hee)

I worked out as much and as best as I could with each one of my children and I always got back down to pre-pregnancy size between pregnancies (4 in 5 years).... I tried to eat and rest as much as I could, but of course, I was able to best care for myself with the first ... after that it was like I spent the next decade in a haze! LOL! My first was 8lbs 15oz, the rest were only 6 and change. Oddly enough, my smallest baby is now my thickest girl (even though they are all so darned thin).

Just go with an activity level that you feel comfortable, eat well and you will be fine.

Remember, this time in your life is sooooooo fleeting and once it is gone - you can NEVER get it back so RELAX and ENJOY THE MIRACLE.

Even though I will in all likelihood never have another baby, I some how don't think that I will ever 100% get over it.... That time in my life was amongst the happiest. Life was so simple and uncomplicated then...

I wish you all the best! :D

How can you put a price on lookin your child in the eyes and knowing that you created them..that they are part of you..........cant do it....it is truly PRICELESS.

In my ever so humble opinion the return more than justifies any investment.

And speeking of shit, Hannibal, when have you EVER been humble! LOL

OUCH!!!! Lets keep them up there...next time I will have to deduct a point.....Neutral Corners Please:(

A more humble man you would have trouble finding.....

HUGE congrats on the baby! You are so lucky - really!

You're NEVER ready to have kids - I have two and I'm still not "ready" - so just take it like it comes.

The hormone swings don't go away til they're in the big diapers, so don't let it phase you.

And don't worry about getting huge - the baby needs the nutrients now, and you can get rid of the fat later. I got huge and had a couple of ten pounders. I was able to recover except for the skin - so just make sure you stay oiled down to protect your skin. I wish I had been more careful. Think of it this way - since you are in good shape NOW, you'll recover better and faster later.

I can't give you any workout advice during pregancy - as it wasn't part of my life then. But there are alot of great women here than can help you out who DO know about pregancy and working out.

I'm glad to hear your boyfriend is delighted. You'd think after 2 years you'd know if you want to make it permanent, but it doesn't help, does it? My S.O. has lived with me 2 years, and I've known him for over 25, and I'm still not sure. : )

Just take it easy and enjoy the pregnancy. Second trimester is the best! Then enjoy the baby and all the luck in the world to you.

Again - mazel tov!

Congrats on the mircale of life.

I am with spatts on the issue of cost. Although the national average to raise a child from birth through to collage accroding to the National Childrens society is 260K. Although you have to figure that number is inflated by about 30% so that the lobbiest can secure funding during an election year. And line pockets to secure thier issues of children welfare reform.

Sorry for ramble.

All and All my mother and father raised 6 kids on a military salary of 30K per year and we didn't want for anything.

Embrace this opportunity not all women have the chance.

Neither of my children were "planned." I was stressed at first wondering how I was going to juggle my budget and job ..but once you feel the baby move in the second trimester it's so exciting. I was on the nordic track and lifting light til the end. I was running up and down the front and back staircases trying to induce labor the last week. I was also begging my husband to do it to me cause that is supposed to induce labor. He didn't want to ..afraid he'd poke the babys head, lol. At the end you just want that baby out of there and start your new life. God it felt good to get my 9 1/2 pounder out of there. Ahhh to sleep on my stomach again!!

Oh for gosh sakes!! Being preggo was the greatest thing of all, could eat like crazy and enjoy the last few days of total freedom from a little one who is totally focussed on himself... like you'll be. And, it is the only time people actually cared so much about me!! Seems once the baby's born mom is forgotten and everyone dotes on the kid. Enjoy and congratulations! You are lucky. I would NOT worry so much about exercising aside from walking, your baby needs all your energy to grow. Pregnancy is a total body workout in itself. You'll snap back into shape with a newborn and a baby jogger, honestly!! And, after nine months of sharing your body you'll be sooooo motivated!! I did one aerobics class and that's it during my pregnancy, carried the babe till term and we were both 100% healthy, normal delivery and all that. Don't risk anything, just take care of yourself... sound like a mom, don't I...

As for the married issue, what does it matter so long as you are happy!

Saw this and thought I would bump it. Tan27 is my wife. (Now she is, I WAS the BF she was living with when this was originally posted.:))

7lbs, 8oz beautiful little boy. Thanks all for the support you showed her. She and the baby are both doing great!!
