I don't know if the story below is true, but a huge bear nonetheless...

This bear was killed by an airman from Elmendorf on Hitchenbrook Island.
The bear stood 12'6" and estimated over 1600lbs. The airman was walking to
his hunting area and the bear stood up only 35 yards away. The bear dropped
down and charged straight for the Airman. He unloaded his gun and the
bear fell 10 yards from him.

what did he use to drop it with one shot? a fricken .50 caliber sniper rifle? how about a 50mm canon?? lol

~p~

I am not a goddamned hippe... but that bear should not have been killed. We need more of those to roam Alaska... we can feed the bears muslim soilders

One shot ??? Unloaded his gun means probably 3+ rounds depending on the model... I would Imagine 30 06 Minimum..

DUH! it was either him or the bear. I dont give a damn if it was the last bear on the planet, he would most definatly get dealt with if he charged me!

I hate that the bear was killed.:(

We keep encroaching on their natural habitat, and then get surprised when they attack us.

Ugh ya, we are the dominant species on this planet ya know.

Well, it sucks that it was killed, but I would do the exact same thing if confronted with that situation.:destroy:

Dogballs... hahahaa Dogballs......

Yeah is sucks it was killed. I know if there really was no option.. then I could understand. But I think there is an option

I would have shot him somewhere non fatal and see what he did then, if he charges again i kill him.

Its sad to see such a beautiful creature go-but if that giant mofo was running up on me I am sorry to say I would have dumped the clip on him/her too.

It's sad that he got killed, but the last thing you want is a wounded bear around. Especially one that size.

Come on, man. Have you ever had a bull charge at you? It's fucking scary. A 1600 pound pissed off bear would have you shitting in your pants. Anybody in that situation would be lucky to even be able to work the action on their rifle correctly. You wouldn't be taking a calculated non-lethal shot and then waiting for the bear's reaction (which I'm sure would not be very positive, to say the least). 35 yards is nothing. A bear could cover that in an instant. You'd empty the magazine and then puke from the adrenaline.

I can hardly stop rolling on the floor laughing at the thought of someone
saying "shoot him in the knee and wait to see what he will do next".

Bwahhaahhaahha

that is so sad...

i completely agree...i would have just fired a few warning shots then rang my little bear bell.....i probably would've tried to empathize with the bear and see if he wanted to meditate with me....

The Truth:

Thanks to our readers, the truth about these pictures has been found. The facts are a little different from the eRumor, but the pictures do record the results of a true hunt and are real.

The original pictures lacked the label linking them with hunting-pictures.com, but that is where the pictures reside. They were posted by a hunter who used the nickname Dalliwacker, on www.assaultweb.net, but who is, according to published articles, Jim Urban. He says that the bear was actually ten feet high and weighed between 1,000 and 1,200 pounds. He says the bear did not stand up then drop down and charge. It showed no aggression at all. He also says the bear was not shot on Hitchenbrook Island but, like all good hunters, he won't be specific about where he got it <smile>.

That pisses me off if he just shot the bear for sport, I got a problem with sport hunters. I have no problem with putting down an aggressive bear that has lost fear of humans and comes around human habitat, but just to hunt the thing for sport is putrid. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if that bear was 1600lbs, hell, from the look of it I thought it might be pushing a ton. Male grizzlies quite often get near 1800lbs. I'd shit my pants on the spot if something like that charged me. If I was in an open field I'd probably have to unload my clip, but my first instinct I think would be to run like a black man running from a group of hooded folks in rural Georgia.

..

I prefer feeding the seagull alka seltzer and then watching them implode. Or going to the petting pond and calling the ducks to shore with bread and then blasting them silly.

There is more Klan up north than there is in the south.
Pennsylvania is the Klan capital of the US
