I know that it's good to mix creatine with grape juice or other juices. But is it possible to mix it with your protien shake? Just curious.......

Thanks

I mix my creatine with protein shakes sometimes and sometimes just drink it with grape juice or warm water(bad taste) and do not really notice a diffrence in results.

I've read in many articles that it is bad to mix creatine with grape juice.

Anybody in the know care to comment on this and tell us why this is/is not true?

i haven't seen anything about it being bad to mix with grape juice or protein. my favorite before bed snack is strawberry mtrx powder mixed with a scoop of fruit phosphagen hp and real cool water so that it's the consistency of pudding.

I believe the claims of not taking creatine with grape juice is mostly from supplement companies that try and sell it to you with dextrose. They claim that grape juice contains a high amount of fructose, which must be converted to glucose in the liver and is therefore not high glycemic and you don't get the insulin spike that you want to drive the creatine into the cells.

Some also claim that protein and creatine compete for absorption when taken together and therefore you don't get maximum absorption of either product.

I'm not making any opinions on either of these claims, just shedding some light on where they come from.

I wouldn't, unless you drink lots of water with your shake.
Remember, creatine pulls water out of parts of your body
and puts it into the muscle. A protein shake is fairly thick
and doesn't have a lot of liquid to it. It is vitally important
that you drink a lot of fluid while taking creatine, or you
could get the cramps, headache, etc.

You want to mix creatine with anything that has a very high glycemic index. This will cause a spike in insulin levels and the high insulin levels will shuttle creatine into your muscles. You shouldn't take creatine with your protein because protein slows digestion and causes a general leveling of your insulin production- this is why hypoglycemics eat a low carb, high protein diet- AD

Whey protein is supposed to be absorbed quickly, no?
