They're called 'Digital Angel Corporation' (majority owned by Digital Applied Solutions who develop security products for consumer, commercial and government sectors) designers and manufacturer of the 'Verichip'.
If you don't know already the 'Verichip' is basically an implantable radio frequency identification microchip which was first designed (supposedly) for animal use and then developed for use with humans. It can be painlessly inserted under the skin in less than 20 minutes, is about the size of a grain of rice and will last a lifetime. The chip is recognized by a scanner which energizes the dormant chip which then emits a radio frequency signal transmitting the individual's unique verification number.
When you think about its potential uses (identification system, venue security, payment system, person tracker, troop movement, border control etc) it's both phenomenal and scary.
With the media and the governments constantly spewing out fear I can see the 'Verichip' being the quick answer to National Security and an assortment of other problems.
You may say that you'd never allow yourself to be implanted but maybe after years of desensitizing and clever marketing ploys we could all end up wanting one. Who of you said they'd never buy a mobile phone?
Personally I think if this kind of technology is ever introduced into the public sector it will be the slow death of our freedom.
