Is steroids REALLY that bad?

So many people who don't know bodybuilding and don't train, will automatically shiver when alot of people mention steroids - thinking they are the worst thing in the world you could do. I've had people tell me stuff like "good luck dying by the age of 30, and if you make it past that be on drugs to keep you alive" etc etc.

I don't understand why, if you're sensible, they're deemed as dangerous. Of course it's not safe like being natural, but surely there's far worse things people do on a regular basis? (drink alot, smoke alot, weed etc etc). Especially if you're not doing crazy dosages, not starting with too many compounds and doing a good PCT.

What are your thoughts on when people without knowledge say these things?

I don't even talk to people about this stuff.. people are too ignorant. It would be nice to have a proper conversation with someone but the average person just hasn't a fucking clue..

Also you title should "Are steroids really that bad" not "is". Just a pet peeve :-)

Don't engage in conversation with people that have that opinion. It's like the old "reefer madness" movies to give pot a bad rap. You will never win talking to people

They are a drug, they can be. It's about how you use them. Obviously drugs are abused all the time. I'm not comparing them to drugs like heroin, but if used wrong of course they are dangerous.

The media rips steroids apart whenever a kid kills himself or someone else due to "roid rage". The general population (who are mostly retarded) see a news report with a giant needle splashed on the background of their tv with the headline "steroid related death".

"Uh oh, I don't know what steroids do but it looks bad"

The key word in your whole post is "sensible." Society, by and large, isn't sensible. What compounds the problem is the explosion of social media and the anonomitity that comes with it. It gives people a forum and a false sense of importance in what they have to say. Along with no accountability in what they say.

A great example is baseball due to the subject of PED use. I see so many regurgitated generalities concerning AAS. My first instinct is to educate but I don't even bother. What's the point? Just let people be happy in their ignorance. They aren't going to go beyond what the media says, have no desire to obtain knowledge, and aren't going to be talked off their perch of superiority.

What bothers me more is the guys using that don't know what they're doing. Long story short, I was talking to a young guy at the gym and he "think(s) I've done Tren." The guy is a PT, thinks he's done Tren before and is asking me why his weight isn't going up on 500mg/wk of Test.

Very true
Alot of people seem to be scared and immediately 'shun' anything that's new to them. It's weird that alot of people think nothing of people binging on alchohol and cigarettes maybe times a week, but then if someone injects test they're a 'moron'.

Lol isn't that the damn truth. I read recent arguments from my friends on FaceBook about how bad it is and they all drink and smoke.

The key word is "drug" if they weren't bad for you, they wouldn't give you some sort of side effect...like I said, it's how you use them
