Is Netflix the answer to Blockbuster?

Fast Twitch Fiber

As Blockbuster has now put all of the locally owned video stores out of business I've been stuck with their miserably poor selection. Blockbuster only thinks they can rent movies that are new and come from major studios.

I signed up for Netflix. The idea is sort of strange, mail order video rentals. Has anyone on here tried this? They charge you $20 per month and you get as many rentals as you want. The catch is that you can only have 3 videos out at one time, when you return one they send you another. I'd rather pay for each one but I'm willing to try it since they have a much better selection. I figure if I get 4 or 5 videos a month it will be worth it.

That looks original.

the time it takes to ship & return a movie cuts into your viewing time though. 2-4 days both ways ends up being 5-9 days per movie. Which is still 9 per month at worst, so it isn't so bad.

Do they only rent DVD's?

yes, they only rent DVDs

you can pay to get more at a time.

I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but here in Boston, I put it in the mail one day, they get it later that day or early the next, then they get it out right after that, and I get it the next morning.
So 2-3 days total for me. For me, it ends up at 3 movies a week assuming I can remember to mail them out.

I think blockbuster has it's claws in the whole movies on demand thing for home viewers as well, I guess they're covering their bases.

Netflix sounds horrible to me. I hate mailing stuff out, I don't pay a single bill through the mail, I have Christmas presents for people sitting in my garage.

what about rentmydvd.com ? anyone used them. Most of their selection is out, but they have about 12000 titles too.

If you live in a large city, chances are the library rents DVDs for free. When i go to the Anderson library, they have a somewhat good selection of dvds (about 1000) that you can get for free.
