bro's:

After reading the recent post which had links to Dr. Bachynsky's long term DNP treatment; http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=331931

I need to try it with a very close freind. She works out, diets etc. but because of no gallbladder, high stress job, poor recovery, injuries, birth control etc. she keeps losing / gaining the same 40 pounds and it is killing her mentally and physically. She is not lazy, she is just one of those people as outlined in Dr. B's paper that just can't lose weight and keep it off without metabolic help! - trust me I know the DNP risks and this is a last resort but it is all she has left besides gastric surgery & lipo which she abslolutely refuses to have!

The only problem is a severe psychological adversion to swallowing pills, while I can get her to crunch up & swallow the very tiny T3 tabs, 1 cap of DNP is impossible for her to swallow and will initiate a violent gagging, choking reaction (not to DNP - she's never used it; any capsule or tab causes the reaction) All her vitamins are liquid.

I read in some old threads there used to be a liquid DNP- I cap my own and have plenty, can it just be mixed with water / juice or something for flavoring? Will exposing the tissues of the throat cause an allergic reaction??

Has anyone used a liquid DNP??

All feedback greatly appreciated !!!!

Some people have had a reaction in the back of their throat, just from the residual powder on the outside of the cap. I would not do it to someone else.

firstly, no. the irritation you would get would be quite severe.

secondly, there are a number of lifestyle factor you yourself outlined that this person should use before using dnp, since, by your own omission, it is the same 40 pounds she is losing and gaining. what makes you think something will change and the same will not occur with dnp? and, of course, you are introducing a very dangerous agent into the persons life.

your friend doesnt need dnp. dnp will just make the weight loss faster, and not affect the weight gain.

what your friend does need is to prioritise her life to include weight loss.

if any agent is appropriate for her, though drugs are unlikely to be a decent long term solution for this patient, it is probably one of the usually prescribed amphetamine drugs.

cheers

Thanks - that's what I was afraid of, unfortunatley even when her life is stable her metabolism is totally screwed and weight loss is always an extreme. exhausting challenge that never leads to a permenent change due to stress, relapse & I guess a psychological addicition to certain foods that she uses for comfort. Being stubborn and undending she will never change. thanks anyway

If she hasn't already, she should get a complete physical that includes blood testing for metabolic disorders. In particular, she should have all her thyroid values checked.

If she doesn't have a problem with her metabolism, then something else is making her overeat. It might be an nutritionally unbalanced diet or psychological issues. Certain anti-depressents might make a big difference here.

If she can't take any capsules and/or is unwilling to change her behavior, then she should consider stomach bypass surgery. It has side effects and is not an easy fix, but it does seem to work when nothing else does. I knew a person who was chronically obese despite everything he tried until he finally had the bypass surgery. Now his weight is normal for his height and you would never know that he had a weight problem.

She doesn't need DNP, put her on a good diet and training regiment. Get her checked out and put her on Thyroid meds.

Her last physical checdked out o.k but I don't know if they did a TRH test, just T3, T4 & TSH - they were normal.

Psychological problems probably play a large role, but even at times when she is not stressed & training regularly with proper nutrition fat loss is extremely slow. She is like the people mentioned in Dr. B's paper - tried everything, just metabolically resistant to fat loss that's why I considered DNP + T3.

She absolutley refuses to have any non-essential surgery i.e gasrtic & lipo (like I said psychological problems!)

Past injuries (took a couple headers down some stairs doing laundry) make training very painful and her exercise intensity very low and the duration short, which results in very slow progress which kills her motivation.
