Is bench, incline, and weighted dips enough tricep work?

I know these are largely chest movements, but the triceps get hit heavily too. Is this enough or should I put in Close grip bench too for the triceps?
Thanks!

I don't know your program but in most cases close grip won't mean a thing with all the other pressing and will likely just dilute your efforts all around. If you want it, then substitute something else out. If you don't feel it's enough tricept work, add an isolation exercise and do some basic reps rather than another compound press. Personally, I think you are well covered regardless.

So if you're already bench pressing, 2 to 3 times a week and want to add a little more tris work what would you do?

Tris Pushdowns, once a week ?

Yea, I'm doing 2 sets of Inlclines and Flat Bench 2 times a week. I did the close grip at the end of my workout, and I finished off with weighted dips. Everything felt fine. I'll see how I feel the next day.

My question is do you have a big fat tri with a deep horse? This is almost like saying i do my biceps workout with pullups and rows now would that give you a big peak? Probably not.... If your looking for big tri's frenchcurls cable pushdowns and over headdumbs is the way to go..I have 5 different ones i like but only use 2 a week and keep switching up to keep muscle confused..This hits your tri's in all different ways....I guess to each his own..

i hope so because the is what i do.. bench, Incline, then finish with some fast has hell dips holding on tight to keep myself from flying into the air from power... I look like i am trying to shake myself to death.. .. love it .. love it..

I don't do them for speed because I put a good bit of weight on. Today, I had 70 lbs added to a belt and did sets of five. I just started these, so the weight is shooting up quickly.

I always thought of close grip as a finishing exercise, like kickbacks.

French curls - a great exercise for tricep size. Make sure your form is good on these and you're not swinging your shoulders.

Ouch man. I don't think the closegrip bench has ever received as nasty a blow. :) There are plenty of people who can push major tonnage in the closegrip. It's tough to compare a 400+ triple in the closegrip to a kickback.

I have to agree there..

I alternate waited with body weight.

I found that bench and weighted dips to help the tris but mostly the outer part of the tricep. Recently, I've started doing kickbacks to work the inner part of the tricep, and that has given me a huge visual improvement, but not much strength improvement. After 2 workouts with kickbacks, I can clearly see the inner tricep muscle trying to make friends with my lat. :) It's a great workout.

Also single arm extensions with the cable machine. Stand close and use both palm up and down. Im talking pressdowns not over the head

well actually I'm trying something new. I was doing HST, but I'm doing a 6-9 week strength workout.

I like to think of myself as somewhat of a tricept guru...only because im 160lbs and I really do have people come up to me at the gym and ask how my tricepts got so big(remember,im only 160lbs nekkid), I have the full horseshoe thingy....this is just matter of opinion and my body,my genes...

Im 23, as a freshmen in highschool,14yrs old, I was 115lbs,me & a friend named ronnie where LIGHT weights and affraid to bench press and do other things in front of the "big guys" so we stayed in a corner and did tricept pushdowns with a V shaped bar.(we did alot of pull downs for the back, another story there too) We did this all the way through our sophmore year, where I was now a whopping 125lbs. By the time I was a Junior, I devoloped a somewhat impressive tricept for 125lbs,but it did go un-noticed..no biggy......The rest of my HS years I obviously grew some balls and started doing other excersises. The past two years I have done VERY LITTLE pushdowns at all. I do alot of overhead extesions (if your a big guy,fat guy,not flexible, you may not feel comfortable,my buddy is 270lbs and WILL NOT do them with me,no flexibility) Overhead extensions are about all I need nowadays. After my chest workout, my tricepts are swollen, so the need to feel the bottom of my tricepts is a must.

Conclusion..

My opinion is the pushdown targets the overall tricept, it will make it stand out and be noticed, will give you a decent back arm 2/3 of your arm will be nice. To get the tricept defined, it has helped me alot doing overhead extensions using DB's properly and strict form. My elbows are about 3-4 inches from my head and I make an extra point to keep my arm straight up and down. My elbow never sits in front of my face, then go all the way down till the DB touches my upper back. Lately I use my wrist to barely angle the DB to where it dont hit my back, but im stretching fuller and digging deeper. Seems to have really made my arm stand out alot.

YOu can view the picture of my arm at

My arms pretty white and was taking middle of winter (january 05)...with my arm tanner, and for those who remember my last topic I started, I been on a crashcourse for results,so they do look a lil better now,not much difference tho. YES I KNOW, my lower arms/forarms/wrist are TINY, I think thats why my upper arm looks better..its TRICKERY to the eye.....Have a great day!!!

My Upper/Lower Arm is the same way. My arms aren't as big as your's though; Mine are only 15''. My wrists are terribly small compared to the rest of my arm. I have noticed since doing more squats and deadlifts that they are growing though.
