is Autocad hard to learn?

I want to redesign my guest bedroom and not quite sure what I want to do with it. So it would save me a LOT of drawing if I could do it on the PC.

you would do better to use one of those interior decorating packages. Pre built furniture art, 3d renderting from preset angles.

Autacad/Autodesk is great stuff, but there are more simple tools that will give you what you need with less headache.

Doing a simple floor plan would be simple.

Anything else would be more difficult.

so in conclusion 2d plan = easy. 3d views = not easy

unless you are me
I'm as easy as they come
I have no idea what I just said

Fro real...Damn Autocad will fry your brain and make you go straight!

If you have the software already, you might as well use it. I wouldn't go out and buy it though, unless you are really interested in learning how to use it. I learned AutoCad in 7th grade and I can still pull off some pretty sweet designs. I use it at work still to design new parts and shit on occassion. So if my dumbass 7th grade self can do it, I am sure you can.

I really need somewhat of a 3D view... it would be easier. When I did my masterbedroom (below), I did it on paper first and it was so fucking painful when I was actually working with the materials.

Yeah, I have access to the software and everything... I don't want to design machines or rockets... just something simple.

chef wide is right, there are better programs out there to use (simpler) than autocad.

Autocad is more than point and click, or drag and drop. It's really designed for professional uses and users. I'vew tried teaching lay-people how to draw lines in acad and it can be quite frustrating.

If you try and use Autocad to do this vs some other simple homeowner design tool, your post count will go up at least
187% from asking questions about how to do this or that every day..

Try this one, I have never used it, but a once-over of the page looked like it might fit the job.

I use Autocad every day. If you aren't profecient in it, don't even try to do anything in 3D in it, that will drive you insane quickly. If all you want is a simple 2D floor plan then you might be able to figure out how to do that, but a new user will never be able to model a room in 3D without training.

Hell, I've been using it for years and I only consider myself an average skill with it. Solidworks is better for 3D modeling anyway.

:lmao:

i don't think it's THAT hard to learn, a buddy of mine had to use it for school and figured most things out for himself by just fucking around for a while. he's not exactly Captain IQ either so that's saying a lot.

What industry do you use Autocad? We use Autocad and Mastercam for automotive dies.I do all my 3d drawings with Mastercam, its alot better than Autocad for 3d.

The thing about autocad is that, even if you become proficient with the program, it's useless if you don't know anything about drafting.

Saw a demo of Mastercam once, seemed pretty nice.

I work for an HVAC controls company. The electronics are housed in sheetmetal enclosures that we draw in Autocad (2D only). We got a few seats of Solidworks in to experiment with, with that we can draw components in 3D and assemble them virtually, eventually we'll be going full 3D for sheetmetal and motor designs and only use Autocad for stuff like harness and wire drawings.

I've done 3D modeling in Autocad, doesn't even compare to the ease and functionality of Solidworks. We got an Autodesk Inventor demo a few months ago but it sucks in comparison to SW.

I do it all.

Currently we have 2002
2004 is out, but not sure if & when we will get it.

I've been using for 10 years now.
Drugs that is.
Been doing Autocad for 9.

We just got 2004, to be honest I prefer 2000. They changed the icons for all of the commmands, it now has more of a WinXP feel to it that IMHO makes it harder to use. There are very few functional differences, other than it seems to be slightly faster.

We've actually been trying to figure out how to replace the new icons with the old ones from 2000. :bawling:

I use AutoCAD everyday...we have 2004...I am proficient in Solid Works, Inventor, UG, and somewhat in SDRC-Ideas.

IMO, AutoCAD 2D is quite simple......if you know design and drafting....same concepts, but on a computer. If you are looking to do 3D or any type of parametric modeling, AutoCAD really is not the software of choice....I really don't even care for their Mechanical Desktop package.....I use AutoDesk's Inventor for almost 100% of my designs.

I've been using these sort of programs for about 15 years now. If anyone needs help or wants something designed, let me know.....I can even possibly animate it for you....LOL.

90% of the time I use the 'hot keys'. I have them customized in the .pgp file. Use my left hand for the keyboard & right hand for mouse. It's much much faster (at least for me).

Besides icons take up room on the screen & pull downs are too slow.

You could technically redo the icons to match the old, but it'd take some time. Copy each icons look and then paste it into the new icons editor. Not sure how convienient it would be, but I've changed a couple icon's appearances before.

Please note the pillow arrangement.

If there ever was any question, whatsoever, of the possibility of AAP faking gayness, then it is all settled in this one pic.

Now the only one left who i say may be faking his gayness is ssme, but he's pretty damn convincing.

How cool is that !!!

This is why I don't post as much! Idiots!

Alien is right about the PGP file.....I as well use hot keys....faster.....but in Inventor there is no command line....Autodesk is hinting that AutoCad will also turn to this method, but any programmer can get around that.

I can animate mechanical components and designs.....never even fooled with making people appear to be jacking off.

Well, I can hand draft in ink or E on mylar and make you wonder if it's by hand or computer.

SO THERE!

I used AutoCad 2000 - I never do 3D work.

I would love for you to come over sometime and show me.

and you all quit picking on BBoy. We need more Beastboy posts so stop before he is gone for good and we are all saddened.

I was rolling at animating a wall ...
What are you gonna animate in a room?

AAP riding that mounted bike handlebar?

Hence the "LOL" I posted after my statement.....dummy.

Velvett....i still enjoy doing Architectural Drawings by hand....that was my first love......nothing beats the hand drawn look on paper of a 3pt perspective.

alien...quit sucking up.....I'll design you under the table.....homo.

Yeah ... the 3 weeks you spent on this really shows off your tremendous skill.

i was gonna laugh my ass off if that had said "shit" and you had drawn a toilet with nature boy's open-mouthed head sticking out of it. but still you did crank out some microsoft paint there and upload the pic so that always warrants a "well done"

i bet you had fun doing it, too
