iOS vs Android vs BB

I've been reading about this issue lately about which OS is the "best". One comparison I like is how BB and iOS are closed system and how this is easier for developers then Android.

Although this seems "backward", I compare it to the console wars and how console games are "easier" to deploy then PC games because there isn't a myriad of potential configurations to deal with.

I've also been reading about how carriers have been stripping out Google services for other services in the Android phones. Yikes!

I can only hope that Bada and Win Phone 7 add to the mix. I'll admit I like the Win Phone 7, but I hate the no wireless tethering.

My droid X sucks. It will receive a viking funeral as soon as Verizon has the iPhone4.

It looked promising early-on, but it's not as well integrated as the iPhone. Also, it doesn't have a good learning curve because as you use it, you don't get more effective with it. And I have to restart mine at least 2-3 times a day. If that's the case, I should have just bought a PC.

And WTF is up with the smiley button on the texting keyboard? Can I get the big boy keyboard instead?

I thought I wanted a Droid X, but when I saw it I realized I'd need a purse to carry the thing in, it's that big. Not a pocket phone whatsoever. Now I gotta check out the Droid 2 to see how it differs. I already know iPhones are gay so that's a no go.

Visually the LG Ally is perfect, but I worry about the cheap price.

Droid X is awesome, two above posters are phone amateurs stuck in the 90's walky talky era

Droid X > Iphone > any phone on the market

I've had em all and get em all for free

PS. Pmunk has porkloin fingers, he'll struggle with anyphone smaller than the Ipad

What's with you and the daily resets of your non-Apple HW?

i'm waiting to see...my iphone 3gs is still alive and kicking even though i've dropped this thing 800 times since july of last year.

I love it but i know there's better options now and i'm really impressed with the droid based phones. the samsung and HTC phones look way better than the iphones right now.

My theory is that I'm just a really heavy user. Windows and Droids have lots of memory leaks, so you start the day running really quickly and by noon your apps are dragging. It can get so slow that you'll push an on-screen button and it takes 3-6 full seconds for the phone to respond.

There's an android app called: "Advanced Task Killer" that will kill-off all the garbage, but it doesn't get all the leaks. That's the only way I make it until noon.

The size really isn't a problem. The phone is larger than most (or all), but it's not thick. You can slip it in your front pants pocket or suit pocket an it lays very flat.

(Now if you've got a prune-belly flopping over your pants or man boobs undulating beneath your jacket, you've got more than a phone problem).

that's what app's are for ya rook

Out of the box, the phone is poorly integrated.

I did the apps thing for the first several weeks and it turned a poorly integrated phone into a complete piece of disorganized crap. It might as well have run Linux.

I just bought the droid2 and I f-n love it, droid x is a brick but the big screen is sweet, htc incredible (had it temp) is touchscreen only and getting old (meh)
No complaints, no lag, set up a battery conserve app and the thing flat out DOMINATES

Why would I want an iphone? no flash, bad network, bad reception bug???

Look everything has it's pros and cons...go with what you like..not what's "cool"

The big screen on the droidx is a great example. It should have a head-and-shoulders advantage over the iPhone, but it just doesn't.

The reason to not get an iPhone is AT&T. They just plain suck. No, they'd have to improve 400% just to get to suck. Yes, you could even add a pot-smoke powered turbine to AT&T and they would still suck.

Yup. John Carmack (the Doom and Quake guy) loves making games for the iPhone, of all things. He put a mobile version of his next big game out almost a full year before.
Most PC fanboys will say developers are all just selling out for working on consoles, but the truth is quality control is a hell of a lot easier on them too.

That's because you have your default programs (maps/nav/weather/newsetc) still continuously running, you need to hard close them down manually (manage app), ATK is only a temp fix. Your phone is dying quick because you basically have your GPS tracker and feed updates on at all times and you don't even know it

You should go over to droidforum, your two biggest problems are the most common and are a sticky fix there. Have you updated to 1.2 froyo yet?

I'll swing by droidforum -- thanks for the advice.

And yeah, I did Froyo. That's the cool upgrade that forces me to punch a pin into my phone even though I don't want to use pins. It's some bug linked to the corporate directory function I believe. I still have the icon, but my phone doesn't even think the corporate directory app is installed now.

Good times!
