As I was walking out of Wal-Mart the other day this 10 year old girl made the comment to her mother that two while girls were walking into Wal-Mart while holding hands with black boys...

I guess that it kinda struck me funny... Do people look at me and my girlfriend like that??? She is Greek...and I mean Greek...not Greek-American... Do the people who feel that interracial relationships are wrong also feel that my girlfriend and I being together is wrong too???

I told this to my girlfriend and she laughed and said...'Clint, this is the United States...nobody is one race here, you are all mixtures of other countries, cultures, and races.'

Australia is just as multi-culutural as the US, and I think the majority of people here are quite accepting of interracial relationships. However, there are groups of people who still frown upon them for whatever the reason might be.

A Greek/Italian married to an Anglo-Saxon is not as big a deal to society as it was say, 30 years ago (so I am told by my parents who are of those races). The massive post-war influx of these two races into Australia brought with it a lot of big changes. Now, its like they've always been here.

As for Asian migration, most of it has occurred a lot more recently - 1980s and onwards. When it comes to interracial relationships between "Australians" (read people of British/Irish decent) and Asians, I think views are slightly behind that of the aforementioned example, but only slightly. The majority of "Australians" are just as accepting, with the exception of your biggots and close-minded idiots that always exist. I find that the biggest difference is seen compared to the views of Asians themselves.

The children of Asian migrants have no problems with interracial relationships, I've found. It is the generation before them that struggle with the concept. My girlfriend's parents would have originally preferred that she was with an Asian man, but have come around to see that it really doesn't matter and are now very accepting. There's still a clash of cultures, mainly between that of Asia and the west (my girlfriend is more western than me ), but that's because they're never going to change the beliefs they were raised with.

Not to throw everyone off on a tangent, but being in an interracial relationship is hard. Even if the outside world can't see it. I am hispanic. I was raised by a very strict hispanic family. My husband is white. I mean white bread white. It caused a lot of problems from day 1. I have gotten lucky with that, I've never really had any problems with dating out of my race. I've dated a couple of black girls before and have heard something in regards to that, but otherwise, I've never really had any problems. My family are really supportive, since I have lived overseas just about all my life. I really don't see a big deal in dating outside your race, hmmm, don't know why others see it differently.

Interbreeding and inbreeding are not the same terms. Interbreeding is associated with less inbreeding, and inbreeding is associated with a rise in the expression of recessive traits.

This is interesting, cause the main gripe people have with interracial relacionships is JELOUSY. “That girl looks too fine to be with him, or he looks too damn good to be with her.” I didn’t read this whole thread, but I saw at least 5responses on the page I read that hit on this very topic. Because someone has a better looking girl or guy than you think they should (or that you could get) you become jealous and try to use the only thing you can, their race, to try to make yourself feel better. I'm in an interracial relationship and my girlfriend pushed up on be at our office building. She's white I'm Black, the city in which we worked is predom. white.
I thought something was up they way she kept starring at me I was actually suspicious. There were other women at that building who contantly flirted with me but she didn't know any of them. Then when we got together I heard hella shit from the black women
The reason I'm with her isn't becuase of her race, thats not a deciding factor. We just click, personalities, sexually, intellectually, interests, humor. I think some people have a knack for making mistakes....they are pulled by gravity it seems. The odds of success are longer with relationships of this nature.
