Intermediate 5x5 question

I'm going to officially start the program next monday because I made the mistake of skimming through the program and not putting my maxes at week 4. Instead i started with them. I didn't want to get stuck early. Is it still wise to set your maxes at week 4 if you are on cycle? I don't want to stall to early on the program. When I finish my cycle (have about 8 weeks left) I wanted to switch over to a 2x a week (M-Th) push pull program for awhile and then get back into the 5x5 again.

I'd still set your max at week 4. If you blow through it then great. Keep going until the gains stop. It's not a race.
 
If you're just starting your cycle then it's probably fine. If you're already into your cycle or running short esters or a high volume of gear then it's harder to judge and it might be better to aim for week 3. If you're well into a very long cycle then just be sure that your 5-RM values are current rather than historic.
