Interesting thoughts on the situation....Give me a read

The whole belief system is different over there. Any Muslim (non Extremist/Fundamentalist) will tell you that the religion is not about killing. However the middle Eastern states generally rule by keeping the masses ignorant and scared shitless. They keep power and self-identity from the people by maintaining ignorance and fear. History has proven that political structures that operate through these methods dont' work - witness the fall of the eastern bloc. However when this control is part of the very spiritual belief system, its hard to overcome it.

In the meantime... G. Dubya has quite a challenge before him. I can only pray the powers that be help us to arrive that best resolution to this tragedy.

The only way any lasting change will happen in the region is if there is aggressive retaliation against leaders and citizens who support terrorism. This is sad. But it is true. There can be no understanding of any other means. The people of the region must be made to understand that terrorism against Americans means that THEIR family is in jeopardy. They must be made to understand that when they cheer mass homicide, they will be shown the other side of it too.

Middle eastern leaders have managed to maintain power by using Israel and the US as enemies, the glue that holds the region together. Rather than make changes, much of the youth of the Middle East is encouraged to become terrorists. (The PLO pays the surviving families of suicide bomers).

At some point, the people have to rise up against their government. But their governments are using Israel (and by proxy) America to re-direct their anger. They need to be shown that rising up in cowardly terrorist acts will only result in tremendous retaliation. Eventually they will get the message, and rise up against their own oppressive leaders.

Does anyone think anything else will work?

My thoughts. Others? [/B]

Well said Matt.

Great post. You said what many of us believe, but leaving out the explitives and giving more thought to explaining your reasoning.

After reading through that, I don't see how anyone can believe a typical, sissy diplomatic attempt at resolution will solve anything...or more importantly, keep it from happening again.

there is no solution Matt

"They need to be shown that rising up in cowardly terrorist acts will only result in tremendous retaliation. Eventually they will get the message, and rise up against their own oppressive leaders.

1) They will never get the message
2) nothing else will work
3) you cannot kill them all, it's not human
4) eventually they win and we loose. Why, they don't care if they die. It's for "Allah".

I don;t think it will be easy. But....

In the Middle East you have extreme wealth side by side with extreme poverty. The only way that such a system can be perpetuated is for the poor people to be placated. The rulers do this by portraying Israel and America as the forces responsible for their ongoing poverty.

There is a lot of anger in the region. There is always a lot of anger when people are impoverished, particularly when there are wealthy people right nearby. This anger is being redirected by leaders.

The anger of the people needs to be redirected toward the leaders that are keeping the people in that condition. The reason that the "for Allah" belief systenm is so prevalent is that their lives are - on teh whole - so bad, so impoverished - here on Earth that they see death as a reprieve. So they embrace it, particularly if they are convinved they can take the enemy (Israel, US) down with them.

If life on Earth were a little more rewarding they might not be lining up to die. But with their leaders treating them this way nothing changes. Thus my solution:

Whenever there is a terrorist atack, hit them back very hard. Let them know that terrorism aboroad means susffering back home. eventually, they will tire of friends and family dying in retailation. eventually the anger will be redirceted toward their NON ELECTED leaders that perpetuate this.

It is sad but it is true.

If I get the call to head there I'll do the best I can and wont forget about the victims that didn't have a chance....Good post

I'm not sure if it would work but it's better then not doing anything

leaders of other nations have publicly decried these actions. Many have publicly stood by the US and offered support to extinguish these cowardly acts of terrorism.

Matt is right.......sad, but true.

Well said Matt.

This Bin Ladden Character needs to get captured and let go in Manhattan and let the good people of New York get some payback.
