Insulin

I've been reading a lot about insulin, trying to decide if it's for me or not. I've read many articles recently but there is always one thing that i cannot seem to get answered.

What is it exactly that the extra insulin that is being added doing? I understand the role of insulin, but if I understand it correctly, your blood sugar & insulin are correlated through a feedback loop. So then, if your insulin increases due to a blood sugar increase from intaking carbohydrates, what is the purpose of adding extra insulin?

Maybe i'm just missing something, but i don't understand why if your body is producing enough insulin for your carbohydrate intake, then why you would need to take more insulin with the extra PWO carbs?

Hopefully someone can understand my question or has an answer for me,

Mike

insulin is one thing that you really need to do some research on before you start it.. thats for sure.. there are a bunch of helpful threads on here too.

No no, i think you misunderstood me. I was not asking about if it's right for me or not...I've read through a bunch of the threads, and a bunch of the articles on other boards and other sites. But i had a specific question to ask that i've not seen an answer for.

Any idea's any one? I'm not really interested in taking insulin but more so the reason we take additional insulin

The purpose is basically the same as adding extra test. Your body does operate on a feedback loop, but it will only go so high. For men, between 5-10mg/day of testosterone is normal. I don't know how many iu's of insulin we produce but it's basically limited by your genetics. Once you get to a certain size, especially taking gear that has you 40lbs over your genetic max, your body won't produce enough insulin to shuttle all the carbs you need into your muscles. At that point, which for most people is well over their genetic limit, you have to add some exogenous insulin to be able to effectively uptake 200g's of carbs in 2 hours post w/o. I don't think most people ever need slin, but that's why it's taken. More test= more muscle... more muscle needs more insulin, so we take that to keep up.

Well said... and I agree. I dont think you really need slin unless you have a considerable amount of muscle mass.

Thanks guys, that's exactly the type of information i was looking for. It just didn't make sense because of the feedback loop that is used, and a lot of the people i see using slin are probably not over there genetic limit at all.

Thanks for the information, k to you both!

Isulin is the most anabolic hormone out there bro. Adding insulin helps drive everything(creatine, glutamine, etc) for better absorption etc. Increasing intake of everything.

Thanks for the input jayy. Adding to what has been said, could i think of it like this: Your body only produces the amount of insulin that it needs to to store an effecient amount of amino acids into the cells, and then the leftover amino acids that aren't required by the body are disposed of properly.

But when using exogenious insulin, a lot more than the body requires is shuttled into the cells making more effecient use out of the amino's, and causing better gains because you wouldn't be wasting all the extra amino acids?

And if that's the case, then insulin would be effective (and ties in with jayy's comment) for everyone, not just those that are 40lbs over their genetic limit.

Am i on the right track here?

Mike
